Berliner Hutte

Descending to the Berliner Hutte. This was an old hunting lodge for the royal and wealthy that now can hold over 100 beds. When built, it actually overlooked the glacier. It was so crowded that we were assigned to a room out back and decided to eat our meals at small private hut about a mile down the trail. None-the-less a beautiful place where we spent 3 days. Day 4 Zillertal High Route.

While I get the camper ready for our trip to Utah, I thought I would go back to several of the hiking trips we have led to the Austrian Alps. We would hike from hut to hut with a bed and food at the mountain hostels. This is from the Zillertal Route across the spine of the Alps between Austria and Italy.

Taken on a beautiful day in September 2010 in Sand in Taufers, located in the Ahrntal (Südtirol Italy) close to the border with the Austrian Zillertal at an altitude about 2500m.
