Whitehorse is the home to the Beringa Interpretive Centre, which tells the story of Beringa, more commonly known as the Bering land bridge from which people first came from Asia to America tens of thousands of years ago. Strangely, this part of the Yukon was not entirely glaciated at this time, and there were some strange animals living in this part of North America then, including huge sloths, lions, and the giant beaver illustrated above. This one is actually a bit small, some of the skeletons show they grew up to 8 feet tall. They must have built some dams.

Oh, and there is also apparently some evidence they hunted and ate humans.
