I wonder why it's customary for old local newspaper offices to have digital clocks and thermometers on their roofs. When I was younger we'd always keep an eye out for the temperature gauge on the roof of the Grimsby Evening Telegraph offices as we passed, and when I moved to Leeds I noticed that the Yorkshire Post building also has one of those displays.
