This is #5 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! Today in the park after having a below average day I met this lovely Lady who i will call Nana because she didnt give me her name. Nana was there with her grandchildren who were having a Great time on the playground. She seemed to have a very close bond with her them. The Youngest one is Riley and he is one year old he sat on her lap the entire time and was more than happy being close to his Nana while watching the big kids play... he was especially keen on watching the very big kids play rugby on the oval. I started off just taking a photo of Nana Riley and the pooch but as soon as the the others saw photos being taken they all came over for a group shot! The kids were just beautiful and loved having their photo taken. This was a really loving family who i could seen genuinely cared for each other. After the big kids went back to playing Nana and i talked about Cyclone Helen, she had been in Darwin for Cyclone Tracey and said when the howling started it brought back memories of Tracey... scary stuff. Nana gave me her email address so i have emailed her through all the photos i took and gave her my flickr address... Nana i hope you see this and like the photo of you and your clan :) Update: I got an email from nana saying she loved the photo and gave me everyones name so heres nana 's (Martha's) Clan by name Martha, Riley, Tayla, Jorja, Tanaya and pooch Teejay

Supermodel of the Golden Age
Made by Gal Friday
This is #16 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! We went into the city this morning to see what has happening around the place. Darwin mall has a great playground in the middle and this is where i met this foxy lady. She was sitting with her 2 Boyfriends ( her husband was in the shops) chatting away while children played around them. I was really drawn to this lady because she reminded me alot of my Oma. I think it was her teasing type humour and her lively manner. I felt very comfortable asking for her photo. We chatted for about 5mins. She is Italian from the north of Italy, she has been living in Australia for 50 years. She has been friends with Stranger #17 for 60 years. When she first moved to Australia she was a model on the cat walk.... ( she and her friends went between English and Italian alot of it took me a while to get to what kind of modeling). She appeared very photogenic to me. I gave her and her friend my card so i hope they see this. I think this was one of the most interactive and pleasant experiences i have had with this project so far... maybe because she reminded me of my Oma or maybe because its just so rare to see older people in Darwin ( average age in Darwin is 32). Anyways it was a nice morning for my stranger project

This is #31 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this stranger on Stokes Hill Wharf. He was sitting on the wharf quietly watching the boats go by. I went up to him and gave him my usual spiel and was really taken a back when he said you can do what you want but i wont be giving you my name. I told him that was cool and was he sure he was ok with me taking his photo, he replied no worries. After i took some shots i went back to my husband and son who were checking out the boats, When the stranger came over and asked if i could take some more shots for him to email through to his Girlfriend in Russia. To which i replied no worries. This shot was taken from the 2nd photo shoot it. Most of my portraits have been fairly up close and personal this one reflects more of this gentleman's character... distant but open to the world. Surprisingly he seem to form an instant bond with my son who talked to him about the boats. We didnt swap much information it was a different interaction to my experiences so far in the project. Not a bad experience by any means just a very different one. He has my card and i have emailed him through the pics so hopefully he likes them. thank you again for being in my project :)

Sometimes a smile says it all

This is #35 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this beautiful stranger on the banks of lake Alexander she was watching her grandchildren play in the sand and shallows. When i went to tell her about the project i discovered we had a language barrier so her granddaughter came to interpret, but after i told the grand daughter she said sure take the shot... i said you better ask your grand ma if its ok.... she said nooooooooooooooooo she will get the idea when you get your camera out!!!! Thankfully The strangers daughter arrived and interpreted for me and she said yes. The first shots i took she was very serious then her daughter told her to smile and her smile grew bigger and bigger until she had us all laughing. I really love her smile and laugh in this shot it made my day. When we had finished her daughter came and asked me how many more strangers i needed and said i should take a photo of her husband cooking the BBQ..... I love it when people lead me to other strangers, its so helpful and really shows a great Aussie tradition of Kindness and lending a helping hand. I really enjoyed these strangers, Thank you again for being in my project.

Ethan and Elisa
Made by Gal Friday
This is #37 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! This is Ethan and Elisa I met them in east point reserve at the playground. I was really drawn to Elisa's hair she has black hair with blue streaks, i had just dyed my hair pink for the world's greatest colour (raising money for leukemia research) so ive been taking more notice of people with colourful streaks. When i approached Elisa she was a bit apprehensive but said sure and asked for Ethan and his mum to be in the photo. Elisa is Ethan's future aunty. Ethan's mum Sarah said she was photo phobic! but she was happy to help and have Ethan in the shot. At this stage of the day my batter light was flashing madly at me! i only got a couple of shot of Elisa and Ethan together this was the best one.... i wish i had got one of Elisa by herself but the battery was completely dead by then. We talked for quite a while about Darwin different places we have lived ect. Sarah even invited me over for a BBQ! I gave Sarah and Elisa my cards so hopefuly they see this. Thank you guys for being part of my project.

Cheeky eyes

This is #21 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this stranger at the Parap markets this morning. I did a walk by first ( the yummy food was calling me) i decided if he was still there on the way back i would ask him for a shot... thankfully he was. What drew me to him was his amazing blue eyes... they had a cheeky gleam to them. I also loved his dreads. We talked awhile about photography and an exhibition he saw in Melbourne of portraits of all nationalities represented in Australia.. i just did a quick search and found it here allofus.com.au/. he said he really enjoyed it and liked the idea of everyone being represented. When i asked him what he wanted me to say about him his friend said.... Single 40 and looking for love to which i replied do you like pina coladas and getting caught in the rain! Hope you find love Mr cheeky eyes! i gave him my card so i hope he sees this :)

Lady in Red
Made by Gal Friday
This is #32 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this stranger on Stokes Hill Wharf, What drew me to her was her bright red dress and hat. Unfortunately i am yet to master the art of shadowless shots so my full colour shots didnt turn out the way i would have liked them too. We didnt swap names because after i had taken her photo she was busy recuting her husband stranger #34 and her new fishing buddy stranger #33 for me to take photos of. I really liked her Aussie Spirit one in all in!..... It works for me A bit about the Lady in Red, she had been fishing for about 2 hours but hadn't had a catch yet. She is one of the most friendly and open people who i have met on this adventure so far. She was originally from Western Australia but has been living in Darwin with her husband for the last 30 years. Thank you Lady in Red for letting me take your photo :) I hope you caught a good catch for supper :)

Green Ants
Made by Gal Friday
Little green ants have the same amount of vitamin C as 20 oranges. You Need to lick their Bums to get the vit C!!! They are everywhere in Darwin. They love to Bite me! Day 3 of Project 365 Day was a wet and rainy Darwin day. In the late afternoon we finally got a dry patch so i took my son down to the playground so he could burn off all that 17 month old energy he has in abundance . I only had the point and shoot for the first part of the adventure Grant had nicked the SLR for the afternoon. We saw some fantastic frilled neck lizards as we walked into the park. Unfortunately the point and shoot had reset itself and was on the lowest possible setting grrrrr . Ive been trying to get a shot of the lizards for yonks but something always happens lol. Anyways later grant arrived with the SLR i went back to find the lizards but they had all disappeared :( I got this shot of the ants tho. i took 64 photos and this was the only one of them that turned out... they move so quick!

Making Darwin a little brighter
Made by Gal Friday
100 Strangers project #1 This is my first attempt at taking photos of strangers. I wasn't going to start until I got my MOO Cards to hand out with my flickr address etc. on it BUT I took my son to the park today and these 2 gorgeous girls walked passed to go to the shops while i was taking photos of Green Ants. I was to chicken to ask when they first went past but on their way back i thought i would give it a go. These girls were great and more than happy to have their photos taken :) We didn't swap details... i was to nervous i think. They were very friendly and obliging i took a few poses and let them choose the one that they liked. I gave them my flickr address so i hope they make it on there to see it. Thanks Girls :) This is #1 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! Explore Jan 3 2008 #73

Let Music & Literature feed your soul
Made by Gal Friday
This is #18 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this lively lady at the Library today.. she was extremely helpful and friendly and had a lovely smile. I was really taken by her liveliness and happy attitude. Its been pretty miserable weather here in Darwin the monsoon is here and everyone is looking a little glum except the friendly librarian :) When i asked if i could take her photo she became a little embarrassed but then did this fabulous pose. I think this really captured her! When i asked her what she wanted me to say about her she said Let Music & Literature feed your soul :) I gave her my card so hopefully she sees this:) This is my first indoor shot for the project... my indoor photography skills are crap but im hoping to improve this.

Rugby: the sport they play in heaven
Made by Gal Friday
This is #30 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! Rugby training was on at the park this evening. These guys and their friends were giving stranger 29 grief for having his photo taken with me.... so i asked them if they were brave enough. The whole group said pretty boy will do it. Pretty boy(on the left) didn't want to have his photo taken by himself so he roped in his friend who happened to be quite pretty too! They refused to pose for me so this was the best candid shot i was able to get. I think looks like 2 team captains coming together at the start of the match. They have my card so hopefully they will see this ... thanks guys for being brave... i have to say you were the most difficult strangers yet with refusing to pose!

Pommie, Bec and Andrew
Made by Gal Friday
This is #8 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met these guys at Parap Market today. I noticed Pommie at first because of his very Aussie face . When he and Andrew stood in front of the Bright yellow canvas i knew i had to ask. I raced over and they asked if Pommie's daughter Bec could be int he photo too. I dont think ive had a portrait of 3 so how could i resist. I talked with Pommie and Andrew about the heatwave that is consuming Australians at the moment. It was 42 in Pommie's home town the other day . These guys were great and a pleasure to photograph. not all the photos turned out as well as they could... the sun was over head and causing lots of shadows. I couldnt decide which photo i liked best so i made a mosaic. Hope you guys like it :)

Strangers in the park
Made by Gal Friday
This is #4 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! This is a father and Daughter i met in the park today. They caught my eye because the daughter was so vivacious and the father was so patient and calm. they were playing twister together and swinging high on the swings. They were one of the many people who had come to the park to check out the cyclone damage. They didnt give me their names but i gave them my details, the little girl came up to me later and said they didnt have a computer so wouldnt be able to see the photos... hopefully she can go and see them when school returns. If either of you see this shot ... thank you again for being such great models.... i hope this shot captures your care for one another :)

Denise

This is #3 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! This is Denise. I met Denise today at the Rapid Creek market she was selling incense and jewelry . She Commented on my camera and asked if i was a budding photographer... I JUMPED at the chance to tell her about the 100 strangers project and asked if she would like to be in it.... kindly she said yes. This was the only shot i got of Denise with her eyes open.... she was convinced that she took a bad photo... I think this shoot begs to differ. Darwin is filled with such friendly, easy going kind people and Denise is a shining example of that. I gave Denise my flickr details so i hope she logs on and sees this. Thanks Denise you made my morning! :)

This is #6 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I had a great day at the park this morning... there were so many strangers to meet. I only took the zoom lens today because i wanted to get some good shots of the Frilled neck lizards that live in the park. I didnt think i would be taking any photos of strangers but my son had other ideas.... he refused to leave the park so we were there for hours!!!! The guys came at the end of our stay i didnt get their names but i gave them my flickr address so hopefully they log on to see it! These guys were very friendly and obliging for me the shots arent as good as they could have been i was worried about my son who was trying to walk up the slippery dip!

Slim Dusty's black son
Made by Gal Friday
This is #25 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this stranger at the ducks nuts bar in the city. My Husband and i were taking night shots with our tripod and this stranger stopped to say hello. He asked us about the camera and our names and i asked if i could take a photo, he kindly agreed. When we asked him his name he said he was slim dusty's black son and then yodeled or us. He is from the Kimberly region but had been living in Darwin for 8 years. They came to Darwin for his wife to receive medical treatment, she is now in a wheel chair. i didnt have my cards with me so i didnt give him my details but i showed him the shots and he was really taken by them.

Carl
Made by Gal Friday
This is #2 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! Cyclone Helen hit the Territory last night. This afternoon everyone was out surveying the damage. Carl and his Mate were Climbing the uprooted African Mahogany. I had already written down my details ( still waiting for the Moo cards) on a bit of computer paper ready for my assignment. Carl was a happy subject, he had many poses for me.... i wouldn't be surprised if you saw him in the next Myer catalogue or on the front page of Australian as the next Australian Adventurer. Carl was annoyed he wasnt able to be out and about last night videoing the cyclone in all its glory. Good Luck Carl and thanks again for the Great poses!

The Boy from the Barossa
Made by Gal Friday
This is #33 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! I met this stranger at Stokes Hill Wharf. He was doing some fishing with strangers #32 and #34. He was a pretty good poser im guessing there are more than one or two shots of the boy from the Barossa with his tongue out and a Bundy in one hand! The Boy from the Barossa has been in Darwin for the past 8 months originally from the Barossa Valley in South Australia. When i asked him why he came to the territory he said I was dragged hahha i can relate to that i was pretty much dragged here myself ! I Gave Barossa Boy my card so hopefully he sees this. Thanks again for being in my project

Lightning 33

This is #29 in my 100 strangers assignment. Check out the 100 strangers website to see more pictures and people working on the same assignment! Rugby training was on tonight down at the park. So far i have been to chicken to walk up to a bunch of blokes and ask them for a photo BUT today this guy kicked the ball to his mate and it ended up in the playground. He apologised for kicking the ball near the kids ( he needn't have because no one was hurt), So i thought i would bite the bullet and ask him for a photo he only let me take the one because his mates started ribbing him so it didn't turn out fully in focus but it lead me to stranger 30th. I didnt get his name but i gave him my card so i hope he sees this.

Sabri, Sam & Hannie
Made by Gal Friday
This picture is #14 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.100Strangers.com I met This trio at the park today. I noticed Sabri and and Hannie first because of their beautiful smiles. They seemed really happy and easy going. They seemed reluctant at first but then i explained i have to get 100 shots and ive only taken 14.... they were happy to help as long as Sam could be in the photo :) So my 2 turned into 3. I gave them my card so hopefully they see this. Also thank you to my husband who helped me photo shop the pole from the back ground..... the photo looks so much better without it
