Westcombe Park station in 1971
Made by Tom Burnham
It's New Year's Day 1971, the snow is still lying and the temperature dropping to freezing as the afternoon draws to a close. A blue and grey 4-CEP heads a 5600 series 2-HAP through Westcombe Park on the 15.36 from Charing Cross to Margate, next stop Woolwich Arsenal. To the left of the station can be seen a curved concrete footbridge over the A102(M) Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach which had recently been carved through this suburban district. I'm not sure what the tower in the distance is - somewhere in Charlton presumably?
