Sphinx at Wertheimpark

One of the two marble sphinxes that guard the entrance to the Wertheimpark in the Amsterdam Plantage quarter. The original sphinxes, that were made out of zinc, were removed in 1948 because of gross neglect. In 1982, when the Plantage celebrated its 300th anniversary, the city was presented with the new marble sphinxes by sculptor Hans 't Mannetje.
