Destination
Made by Lynn Morag
The Traveller They pointed me out on the highway, and they said 'That man has a curious way of holding his head.' They pointed me out on the beach; they said 'That man Will never become as we are, try as he can.' They pointed me out at the station, and the guard Looked at me twice, thrice, thoughtfully and hard. I took the same train that the others took, To the same place. Were it not for that look And those words, we were all of us the same. I studied merely maps. I tried to name The effects of motion on the travellers, I watched the couple I could see, the curse And blessings of that couple, their destination, The deception practised on them at the station, Their courage. When the train stopped and they knew The end of their journey, I descended too. ~ John Berryman,1914-1972 ~ The Wait It is life in slow motion, it's the heart in reverse, it's a hope-and-a-half: too much and too little at once. It's a train that suddenly stops with no station around, and we can hear the cricket, and, leaning out the carriage door, we vainly contemplate a wind we feel that stirs the blooming meadows, the meadows made imaginary by this stop. ~ Rainer Maria Rilke,1875-1926 ~ Translated by A. sunset over edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle is an ancient fortress which, from its position atop Castle Rock, dominates the sky-line of the city of Edinburgh. As with all castles, Edinburgh's fortress has been a centre of military activity. As an ancient fortress Edinburgh Castle is one of the few that still has a military garrison, albeit for ceremonial purposes, and the official headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and 52 Infantry Brigade, as well as home to the regimental museum of the Royal Scots and Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The military governor is Major General David McDowall (late Royal Signals), GOC of the British Army's 2nd Division. Direct administration of the castle by the Ministry of Defence only came to an end in 1915 when the army moved to the city's Redford Barracks. Nevertheless, the Castle continues to have a strong connection with the Army. Sentries still stand watch at the castle gatehouse between 6pm and 9am, with responsibility for guarding the Honours of Scotland. Belongs to Edinburgh Style

Foggy Balmoral
Made by Daveybot
There have been some lovely fogs of late. Up here of course it's not fog - it's 'the haar', which I think gives it a nice sinister note, don't you? It's also just occurred to me that this is the third of my 'one shot a day' challenge photos to feature this , and I can assure one and all that it's not the last, either!

I've always thought the toilets of a drinking establishment were a good indication on the whole place. This was bogging.
