Engraver's Masterpiece - 911 Memorial
Made by 1Sock
The story behind this piece is that one of the master engravers started working on this in his own time (not on the clock) and when Waterford Crystal found out what he had been working on, they had him make another one. The other piece has been donated to the City of New York, in remembrance of the World Trade Center tragedy. This one is proudly displayed on the floor of the engraver's room and is included on the tour of the facility. I took 2 pictures of this piece. There was a tungsten light highlighting the piece. This shot was taken with the white balance set to cloudy. The other shot was taken with the white balance set to tungsten and while there was nothing wrong with the result, I felt it was just to blue. I feel like the warmth of the extra yellow in this one adds to the warmth of the gift from Waterford to the City of New York and colors the emotions from that tragic day.

If only price were not an object ....

... this little guy would've come home with us. Even more magnificent Of course, the Waterford Crystal Factory has a retail store attached to the factory for our shopping pleasure. We became quite enamoured with the celtic cross while in ireland, but we couldn't afford this one. (This one cost about $5,000 euro)

Etching in the studio
Made by kit
In the back studio, some artists etch individual designs into pieces of crystal. These are far fewer in number than the cut glass pieces that Waterford produces. Seen on the factory tour at the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre in County Waterford, Ireland.

Cutting crystal
