The Church of St. Nicholas (Germ. Nikolaikirche) is the oldest church in Berlin, the capital of Germany. The church is located in the eastern part of central Berlin, the borough of Mitte. The area around the church, bounded by Spandauer Straße, Rathausstraße, the River Spree and Mühlendamm, is known as the Nikolaiviertel 'Nicholas quarter', and is an area of restored mediaeval buildings (in some cases recent imitations). facebook text... The sad situation in Japan has made us become active. Currently we feel that the center of attention primarily is the nuclear powerplant in Fukushima. It seems that the humanitarian catastrophy is not getting the same amount of attention, not to say almost none. The flashmop wants to make a statement, and send a message to Japan, to those suffering personal loss and dealing with their blow of fate. Fore this purpose we will meet tomorrow, Sunday 13th of March at the Neptunbrunnen (S-Bahnhof Alexanderplatz) right across the Rote Rathaus. For those who want to support, please dress in either a white or red shirt, sweater, jacket. We want to form the japanese flag as a sign of solidarity. die traurigen Ereignisse in Japan haben uns auf die Idee gebracht aktiv zu werden. Da der Fokus derzeit ausschliesslich auf dem Atomkraftwerk in Fukushima liegt und die humanitäre Katastrophe aus dem Blick gerät, wollen wir mit diesem Flashmob ein Zeichen setzen und an die persönlichen Schicksale der Betroffenen erinnern! One of the oldest churches in Berlin, it houses a large medieval fresco of The Dance of Death and other artworks. History Begun around 1270, the Marienkirche was completed in the early 14th century. St. Mary's was designed as an early Gothic hall church; it received the front tower in the 15th century and a Baroque dome atop the tower in 1790. The dome was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans, the architect of the Brandenburg Gate. The Marienkirche became Protestant after the Reformation, in 1539. It was damaged but not destroyed during World War II and fully restored in 1950. Many artworks from nearby destroyed churches were moved into the Marienkirche, where they remain today.

È un conosciuto punto di riferimento della città, presso la Alexanderplatz. La torre fu costruita nel 1969 dalla Repubblica Democratica Tedesca (RDT) e la sua immagine fu usata come simbolo di Berlino dall'amministrazione della RDT. La torre è facilmente visibile da tutti i distretti centrali di Berlino e rimane uno dei simboli della città.
