Last chance for Summer games

Last chance for Summer games
Made by StGrundy
Attended a wedding this weekend where the guests were invited to play lawn games after the ceremony. One last chance to get some late Summer fun in before Autumn has fully arrived! Croquet in America: From Backyard Game to Worldclass Sport from: United States Croquet Association official website The sport of croquet was born in the British isles in the mid 19th century and soon migrated to most other English-speaking countries. In the United States, manufacturers popularized a version of the sport that could be played on rough turf with lightweight, inexpensive equipment. It is this lightweight, scaled-down, toy version of croquet which most Americans have either seen or played. Croquet as a public sport suffered a setback in the 1890's when the Boston clergy spoke out against the drinking, gambling, and licentious behavior associated with it on the Common. The game of Backyard Croquet has maintained its popularity in America for more than a hundred years as the ideal complement of garden parties, family gatherings, outdoor fund-raisers, and social events both raucous and elegant. Great Walton

This was my first trip to Social Circle, Georgia and I haven't been able to get back since. While I'm happy to have gotten this shot, I was hoping to catch the railroad running with one or both of these units. The Chessie System unit on the left has been sold to a museum up north where she has been repainted into her Western Maryland paint while the ex-South Carolina Central unit on the right has been given a new Great Walton scheme. Of note are the numberboards on the 6400. For someone reason, the left hand side number boards facing us (right side of the engine) are inverted. The third unit is a parts source.

Monroe, Georgia: City of Governors

Monroe, Georgia: City of Governors
Made by J. Stephen Conn
Monroe, Georgia, named after the fifth U.S. President, James Monroe, is located in the heart of Walton County. It was established as the county seat in 1821. The town proudly calls itself the City of Governors, because of the four Georgia governors who have hailed from here. Monroe has a current population of around 11,400. I have been in Monroe several times over the years in my journeys through Georgia. The photos on this page were taken on my most recent visit there, in September, 2007.

I just love the ears on this pup! He was quite lucky as he was quickly turned around. He was adopted out the same day he came in! We gave the adopter a crate, dog bed, chew toys and food bowls free with the $40 adoption! Since we are not a no-kill shelter, we love it when pups turn around and go out alive quickly, like Hershey. Burgers cookin' on the grill: a sure sign of summer.....thank you, God, summer is finally here! And these were damn tasty, if I do say so myself. We stopped for meat on the way home and added egg and whatever spice we grabbed from the cabinet. Because of that, they'll never taste quite the same again, of course (what spices did we use again?)....but damn, they were good!

Good Hope, GA Someone was so caught off guard when they were eating salad on their school desk and the side of the house gave way.... I don't know what this building was, but it had everything from desks to old T'V. tubes in it, and a couple of massive vultures to boot.

My Uncle Used to own this store... I was bait boy back in the day. I used to love sitting on the porch with old men. I remember when he got this door installed... he was so proud of it, he used to yell at the kids who would put their faces against it. Good hope, GA

She was very Pooped after the concert and when we got back to Casa Del Coco we had to pack our things for an early morning departure. Peony was no help just babbling all the time about Clyde. Then I went to take a shower and Tevi did not wait up for me.

These do everything fast and random, never landing and hardly hovering. Seemingly unpredictable, tracking one to photograph it is a challenge. Sony pentaprism OVF DSLR, Sony 70-300 G lens. Sony 58 flash, tracked handheld and hand focused.

The memorial, which is topped by an Eternal Flame, is dedicated to all veterans of Walton County. It was erected by the local American Legion in 1969, and stands in front of the courthouse, across from the Confederate monument.

Buses are parked on the asphalt on the property and the town's recycling center is on the other side of the road, but Good Hope is apparently very content to not just leave this abandoned but to let it disgustingly rot.

The photo may not be a thing of beauty, but the brickwork is. The round chimney sits on an octagonal pediment with a five step mantel. Looking at the picture, at first I kind of objected, but the vines have grown on me.

Spring Fever today. 66 degrees. A beautiful warm day today and a welcome break form the cold. All of our thirtysomething neighbors' kids were out today, so somebody had to get out and show them how it's done!

This playground at Mill Creek Mark represents a terrestrial ecosystem. This is considered biotic because there are children and parents surrounding this environment; also the live trees.
