Moby Concert (Montreal)

Moby Concert (Montreal)
Made by Anirudh Koul
Moby Concert in Montreal (Metropolis) on 26th September, 2009. Just before the concert, Moby performed at the Apple Store in downtown Montreal. Listening to Moby with a real band instead of tracks on a turn table was a real treat. Even the background for Go was sung live - by Inyang Bassey. No samples used this time. Apart from the guitar, Moby shuffled between Congas and a Keyboard. The last time Moby came here (March 2008), a snow storm delayed his plane landing (while the crowd was waiting). By the time he came to the venue , the solo performance proceeded for only half an hour till the Police arrived to empty the place (due to Permit timings). Incidentally, I had a plane skidding incident in the same . Ace Frehley of Kiss

Ace Frehley of Kiss
Made by Jazmin Million
Paul Daniel Frehley (born April 27, 1951[1]), better known as Ace Frehley, is an American guitarist best known as an original member and lead guitarist for the rock band Kiss founded by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He took on the persona of 'Space Ace' when the band adopted costumes and theatrics. Frehley played with the group from its inception in 1973 until his departure in 1982. After leaving Kiss, Frehley embarked on a moderately successful solo career, which was put on hold when he rejoined Kiss in 1996 for a highly successful reunion tour. His second tenure with Kiss lasted until 2002, when he left at the conclusion of the band's Farewell Tour. He has since resumed his solo career although to date, he has not released any new music. www.kissonline.com/

Slava Snow show

Slava Snow show
Made by NaPix -- (Time out)
Last night in Montreal, the closing act of a fantastic show. Highly recommended. They call him the best clown in the world. His Snow Show is celebrated as a theatre classic of the 20th century (The Times, London). Recognition came unusually early for Slava Polunin, and from that moment on, his fame was unstoppable. This is probably because Slava doesn't do things just like that. Everything in his life is very well considered, very finely weighed - even the most crazy, the most incredible, the most adventurous of feats. In achieving his aims, he is concrete, collected and imperturbable. www.slavasnowshow.com/biography-e.htm

Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance

Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance
Made by an untrained eye
October 3rd, 2008 - Montreal, Canada This group of four were practicing meditation exercises intended to develop practitioners' hearts and character according to the principles of zhen (truthfulness), shan (compassion or benevolence), and ren (forbearance) as articulated in the teachings of Falun Gong. In the half hour or so my guide, the inimitable , and I spent in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown, a good thirty or forty people must have photographed them - and not once did any one of them appear to be disturbed from his or her state of complete serenity. This one's for you, Sheldon. I think it benefits from being seen .

Lonely Passage

Lonely Passage

An unknown man walks through Montreal's pedestrian tunnels during the Nuit Blanche Festival. -- Down the dim snaked path what is waiting for you? Each curve, each turn deceives us into the belief that there are more ways than one we never know what lays beyond the bend My unknown friend our feet know the same ground our eyes behold the calm light and our hands will push the same door we both travel upon this river to its end ^ By my good friend Dan. Hugh Masekela

Hugh Masekela
Made by Professor Bop
The ever amazing Hugh Masekela performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival on June 27, 2011 at Club Soda. STIMELA is what the man is singing ... the coal train, a poignant and powerful tribute to the African men whose sorrows, struggles and agonies aboard the coal train to the mines deep inside the earth are chronicled in song. Shot with an Olympus E-5 from the second balcony. Zuiko 50-200mm lens.

Pet Shop Boys Concert Stage Lighting

Pet Shop Boys Concert Stage Lighting
Made by Anirudh Koul
Pet Shop Boys Concert Stage in Montreal (Metropolis) on 29th August, 2009 (Pandemonium Tour). The Pet Shop Boys are also performing at Toronto's Virgin Festival on 30th August. The Concert Stage was an ad-hoc arrangement of white blocks joined together to form a wall. In the mid of the concert, the crew would jump through the blocks, breaking the wall, climb on top of it, or even pull it to the ceiling, with rotating cubes in the air. All a Blur...

All a Blur...

I've been so busy since my trip to Canada that it already feels like forever ago! I need another vacation! In fact, I think there should be a new rule: work 3 weeks, vacation a week. Doesn't that sound nice? I took a blurred photo like this of the streets of Chicago last fall, so I thought I would keep the tradition in Montreal - does doing something 2 times make it a tradition?! The streets and lights were beautiful to see (and it was totally worth the near frostbite ;-) HBW!

Altar of Notre Dame Basilica - Montreal, Canada

Altar of Notre Dame Basilica - Montreal, Canada
Made by Dae-Wang
View On Black The church's Gothic Revival architecture is among the most dramatic in the world; its interior is grand and colourful, its ceiling is coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is a polychrome of blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues

8.22.2005: Couple waits for the next train in the Montreal Underground. This was hsot during a short stay in Montreal, while traveling and visiting family in Canada last Summer. Personally, I like the way the moving train was reduced to blue stripes, and the reflection of the couple on the subway platform. A note to those questioning the focus on the people--the exposure was f/5.6 at 1/8 second, so I believe they are actually motion blurred.

Old Montreal Fence

Old Montreal Fence
Made by eRachel11
This is a simple green fence somewhere near Old Montreal. The fence was nothing special but I just loved the color, especially with the red berries behind it. I don't know about you all but I'm so so ready for the weekend! I have a ton to do but hopefully it will all come together - getting a house ready to sell is the worst! I hope you all have a great weekend and are able to relax some! HFF :-) Texture by Kim Klassen

Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

The blue ceiling adds drama to this grand and colorful altar. You pay $5 to get in here (free during Mass but no photography is allowed). And Then There Was Light, a sound and light show detailing the history of the church is held Tuesday-Saturday evenings. Every December, Handel's Messiah is performed here. This is a single RAW shot NOT an HDR. I just want to show details of altar.

The signs outside the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Montréal give the impression that one has to pay to enter, but there is also a sign that says you can go in for free to pray, and no one will stop you from taking a picture or two after you are done praying...;-) Not processed: It is one of those rare subjects that look like HDR even to the naked eye...

Stained glass at Champ-de-Mars station on the Montreal subway -- one of the very few stations that get natural light on the platforms. The stained glass artist was Marcelle Ferron (1924-2001). You can see more of her work in the subway station here.

Going Home

Going Home
Made by caribb
It's always a battle getting on and off the Metro trains in Montreal especially at busy stations like this one. We behave in this situation the same way as we drive... everyman for himself with little regard to people we deem as in the way of us getting ahead.
