Victoria Tower is the square tower at the south end of the . At 98.5 m (323'), it is slightly taller than the more famous Clock Tower at the north end of the Palace. When it was built it was the tallest square tower in the world. The main entrance at the base of the tower is the Sovereign's Entrance, through which the Monarch passes at the State Opening of Parliament. Atop the Victoria Tower is an iron flagstaff, from which the Union Flag is flown (unless the Sovereign is present in the Palace, when it is replaced by the Royal Standard). Named after the reigning monarch at the time of the reconstruction, Queen Victoria, after the fire of 1834. Designed by Sir Charles Barry in the Perpendicular Gothic style, the stonework was originally Anston, a sand-coloured magnesian limestone quarried in the village of Anston in South Yorkshire. Pollution soon led to decay of the poor quality stone. In the 1930's a project was started to replace it with Clipsham Stone, a honey-coloured limestone from Rutland, but was halted due to the WWII, and completed only during the 1950s. The Tower houses the Parliamentary Archives in archive conditions meeting the BS5454 standard.

The Clock Tower is the world's largest four-faced, chiming clock. The structure is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament building in Westminster, London. It is often referred to as Big Ben — which is actually the main bell housed within the Clock Tower. The Clock Tower has also been referred to as The Tower of Big Ben incorrectly.

From Victoria Tower Gardens. I like the market town feel of this view.
