August 12th, 2010 - Lausanne, Switzerland So I've been away again... not so good times, busy times, better times... Not sure if this is a good enough picture to mark a comeback; but then, those that know me know my comebacks can be short-lived at times. The blue light here was just extraordinary, but despite hanging around for fifteen or twenty minutes I never quite got the shot I was really hoping for - it's the busy entrance to a metro station, and I suspect my dream of catching one person going up the escalator at the same time as one person caught in the sunshine coming down the steps was a vain one. Perhaps I'll return for another attempt some time soon. In any case, this is definitely better (on white rather than black). I hope to catch up slowly over the next few days and weeks on contacts' streams and all the invitations I've received over the seven months since I last posted. Time goes by so fast...

In front of Lausanne Cathedral... They were sitting on the bench and talking rather engagedly.... The couple was very odd: the guy looked like a street kid, with his backpack and two dogs lying close by. The old lady, the very old lady, was clearly local - she was on crutches and on that steep hill she could not have come from far away.... They spoke very quietly for at least 15 minutes. Then she got up and without looking back strolled away. The guy put his feet up and streched on the bench and fell asleep almost immdiately..... I walked away wondering what could have connected them and what could they have been talking about........ 0071-063006-/-0068-081106

A view from my hospital room the day I left after my screws removal operation. Sun rays were hitting the lake through thick grey clouds, turning the lake into an iridiscent surface. I will admit to a fair bit of post-processing to bring contrasts down to an acceptable level... My camera did not cope too well with the intense light! Won in group 3waychallenge

I wish I had managed to focus on his face and not on the leaves in his hand. I wish I had been able to do justice to the pure joyfulness of his smile. I wish I could be six years old again, just for one day.

This was taken with the camera way above my head, arms outstretched, while I tottered and tried my best not to fall off the wall I was standing on in order to get a clear shot through this metal sculpture and the Lausanne locals looked at me like I was some kind of lunatic.

I already miss the snow

We did not have snow since December. Even if it was the biggest snowfalls we have ever seen for at least 20 years, I already miss this particular feeling of silent nights, watching snowflakes falling (and cars slipping on the road as well!).
