365/365 || Going out with a bang!!!!
Made by Aqua Libra
For everything there is a beginning and an end, there is an A and there is a Z, there is Alfa and Omega. This symbolizes so many things for me now. It closes the cycle of 365 images. Started out as a impulsive ADHD maxie project with a what the hell, let's give it a try kinda feel to it and see what I could come up with, to make 365 photos and keep it interesting combined with my poetry and my sick sense of humor :) During the project I've started to notice that it was also a very personal journey for me to wake up and shake some old demons off, and as you may know old demons made me sick. Losing control over one side of your body isn't funny, losing the ability to speak properly isn't funny. months of insecurities and tests wasn't funny...oh don't get me wrong I am doing so much better and working my way back :). So as you may know it took me a lot more than a year to finish this 365..but all things that happened never made me quit..and my girl never made me quit. I cannot imagine what I would have done without her, with this project, helping me getting dressed, driving me to the hospital and so much more. I love you Liesje!! And for you sweet guys and sweet girls, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful support and concern and even sweet presents during this 365 rollercoaster and my sickness, it really sometimes brought me to tears. I always thought that Internet friendships were a lot of blabla..but now I know there can be real warm connections and I cherish them allot. And some people that are with me from the beginning have a special place in my heart.. *M-C1*: I so respect your work all over the years Lisa and to do what you do..I can't do..You’re the Flickr queen bee!! Black-tailed Skimmer on a string

Black-tailed Skimmer on a string
Made by B℮n
The Black-tailed Skimmer is a European dragonfly. The male has a blue abdomen with a black tip and transparent wings, and the female like above has a yellowish brown body with black zigzag marks along the abdomen and the transparent wings. It is an active Skimmer that patrols its territory aggressively, frequently resting on patches of bare ground or stones although it will occasionally rest up in vegetation. Mating takes place initially in flight but is completed either on the ground or vegetation. Females lay their eggs whilst skimming low over the water. Medium sized; body length 30-35 mm. Photo taken for the monthly assignment of Camera on manual mode...Aperture priority f/3.3, 1/400s, ISO100, 432mm zoom 18x .

A hidden park along the Vecht river

A hidden park along the Vecht river

Breukelen is a municipality and town in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It is situated to the north west of Utrecht, along the river Vecht and close to the Loosdrechtse Plassen, an area of lakes and great natural beauty. During the 17th century a number of Amsterdam merchant families built opulent mansions along the river near Breukelen. This park belongs to the castle of Gunterstein next to the river Vecht. The borough of Brooklyn, New York in the United States, is named after Breukelen. This photo was taken at the park of Castle Gunterstein. Such a quiet and forgotten park since we didn't met anybody during our 2 hour walk.

The 'green' heart of Holland.

The 'green' heart of Holland.
Made by B℮n
A picturesque canal between the Loosdrechtscheplassen and the river The Vecht. One of the most beautiful rivers in Holland. This river is a Rhine branch in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The area along the river is called the Vechtstreek. The Vecht originates in the city of Utrecht. The nature surrounding the river is typical for peat-soil. In the summer you will see young storks high up in their nests and now and then we will have to wait to pass one of the many drawbridges… after all the bridge-master also must have his tea. The Green Heart is characterized by its rural character which contrasts the urban areas around it. Agriculture, nature and recreation are the primary activities in the Green Heart. One of the European footpaths runs through the area. In the Netherlands this is known as the Floris V-pad.

Hairy Speckled Wood

Hairy Speckled Wood
Made by B℮n
The Speckled Wood is a butterfly found in and on the borders of woodland throughout much of Europe. In Northern and Eastern Europe where subspecies like above one P. a. tircis occurs it is brown with pale yellow or cream spots and darker upperwing eyespots. Females have brighter and more distinct markings than males. The wingspan of both males and females is 3 - 4 cm, although males tend to be slightly smaller than females. Males are highly territorial and will defend their territory against intruding males. The butterfly lives approximately 3 weeks. It took me 15 minutes before he did get used to my camera. The lens was like a mirror to him ;-) Het bont zandoogje is een dagvlinder uit de subfamilie Satyrinae herkenbaar o.a. aan de zandoogjes.

Compensation for Mozart's Lost Music. Scarlet Trumpet Flower (Brugmansia sanguinea) in the Old Hortus Botanicus, Utrecht, The Netherlands

Compensation for Mozart's Lost Music. Scarlet Trumpet Flower (Brugmansia sanguinea) in the Old Hortus Botanicus, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Made by Rana Pipiens
Leopold Mozart, Great Mozart's father, in 1762 wrote a Trumpet Concerto just before Sebald Justinus Brugmans (1763-1819) was born. Scarlet Trumpet Flower - officially Brugmansia sanguinea - was named for Brugmans, one time professor of Botany of the university at Leiden. This particular plant - potted rather too tightly, I think - has just been moved to the orangery or conservatory of the old Hortus Botanicus of Utrecht to weather the winter, almost upon us. This orangery is a rather curious building because it has two floors. It is said that the second floor was added as a small concert hall for the visit of young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to Utrecht in 1766. The story of this architectural innovation is probably groundless, but it is true that ten-year old Mozart and his older sister Nannerl gave a joint performance of clavecimbel music in the city. A few years later in 1768 - Utrecht, no doubt, long forgotten - Mozart apparently followed in his father's footsteps and also wrote a Trumpet Concerto, which has regrettably been lost. But as I trod the Autumnal Paths of this pretty Botanical Garden it was not Mozart - neither father nor son - who delighted my inner ear, but the smooth trumpet of Miles Davis's (1926-1991), 'Someday My Prince Will Come'.

Hamlet Beerschoten

Beerschoten is a hamlet in the municipality Utrechtse Heuvelrug, in the Dutch province Utrecht. Beerschoten lies on the edge of a forest between the towns of Zeist and Driebergen-Rijsenburg. The hamlet grew around the estate Beerschoten-Willinkshof.

Best viewed large to see all the interesting stuff there is on sale. This image was taken in a small shop in Utrecht. This shop, named De Oude Doos (The Old Box), sells all kind of old things like dolls and dresses to collectors. Although the shop was still closed the very kind owner let me in to take some images. I asked her to write some words about here little shop: DE OUDE DOOS is a shop for collectors of many different items. De shop is already 25 years old and in this period we served many collectors by helping them with valuable additions to their collection. We have customers with many different collections, however, most eye-catching are the collections of old dolls and toys. All our items are at least 50 years old. Besides this we have antique, sewing kits and other handcrafts items, old cookie and chocolate cans, medical instruments, kitchen items and glass. We also have dices and helped a collector with additions to his extensive sets of special dices. This collection is published in a book You can find this little shop on the Oudegracht 334 (Tolsteegzijde) Visit my iStock portfolio

Enjoying the woods on a horseback

Enjoying the woods on a horseback

Lage Vuursche is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Baarn, and lies about 5 km west of Soest, in the middle of the forest. Drakestein, the former residence of Queen Beatrix, is situated just east of the village. An oasis of rest directly next to the big city life. The woods are there beautiful and varied. One can make a horse ride. I think the most natural way to enjoy the countryside is on horseback. Certainly, it is how many of our ancestors and famous novelists and poets came to experience the diversity of the woods of the Lage Vuursche.

Best viewed large: This is a view up the more than 60 meter high tower of De Inktpot. The ceiling your are looking up to is at 45 meters. The upper part of the tower is a water reservoir. The inktpot is build between 1918 and 1922 using 20.000.000 bricks. The building is designed by G.W. van Heukelom for the Dutch Railways. The blue light in the top is daylight shinning through blue windows. All the other light is artificial. Normally you cannot enter the building, but today it was Open Monumentendag and ProRail, the current owner of the building opened the doors for the public. So, I brought my tripod and positioned myself in the middle of the hall. While I was on my knees preparing this shot about 50 or more people were gathering around me. Not to see what I was doing, but the hall was also the starting point of the guided excursions that were given today. Explore Sep 8, 2007 #161 Visit my iStock portfolio

Hessing, Utrecht, The Netherlands These are two of the three Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's that were at Hessing when I took this shot. The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera weighs around 154 pounds less than the Gallardo LP 560-4. The 5,2 liter V10 engine delivers an incredible 570 hp. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in only 10.2 seconds later, while top speed goes up to 202 mph. The car’s exterior is defined by three-dimensional front bumper with large air intakes, new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes and a big rear spoiler available as an option. Best viewed large The second one in my new series. A little shop loaded with antique items. I asked the lady of the shop if I could made some pictures inside. Without hesitation, she agreed and she told me I was free to shoot what ever I liked. After I was finished, we talked for half an hour about old houses and how charming they are. She told me that years ago, she was asked to take pictures in what is now called Karel V, a very beautiful hotel in Utrecht. Then, it was totally decayed. Without knowing she had been on a urban exploration... I asked her email address which she did not have, so I told her I would make a print of the most beautiful picture I took in her little shop. I actually made two prints of this image. One is decorating in my own house... Visit my iStock portfolio

Can't find the reason, for feeling blue There's so much I can't explain Hope this season changes soon. The lightning strikes and the mountains fall The sea's come crashing, against it all Hang on tight, in the tides of change And get your bearings from those still sane There's so much I've yet to feel Hope the seasons change me too. Because of all the enthousiastic reactions I have decided to do some more B&W images in the coming period. The most frequent reaction on the previous image was about contrast. I should have made images from the floor and the ceiling too. Because I didn't, you now see a arched black frame. I decided not to crop the image to save all the details...
