Uffington White Horse
The Uffington White Horse is a highly stylised hill figure, 374 feet (110 m) long, cut out of the turf on the upper slopes of Uffington Castle, a largely Iron Age hill fort near The Ridgeway, in the civil parish of Uffington in the English county of Oxfordshire (formerly Berkshire). It is located some five miles (eight kilometres) west of the town of Wantage. Best views of the horse are obtained from the north, particularly from around the village of Great Coxwell. The hill upon which the figure is drawn is called White Horse Hill and the hills immediately surrounding it, the White Horse Hills.Top photos chosen by u all:

Location for the filming of the video for the Kate Bush song, Cloudbusting, which was inspired by the book A Book of Dreams by Peter Reich. This picture reminds me of the video, where Peter's father is shown being taken away by The Government. The book is a Peter's memoirs of his relationship with his father - a scientist who discovered Organon and invented a Cloudbusting machine - and was imprissoned by the American Government. They burnt, as I recall, over two tons of his papers and books. Peter never saw his father again. A beautiful site - so special to us - with echos to the story. A place of Dreams.

The difference once chalked is significant - such an improvement. Sections which are on less of a gradient have courser chalking as the risk of rain washing the chalk away is reduced.
