I'm old enough to remember these, though obviously not Soviet ones. That was back in the days when dialling a number was exactly that, you dialled. We didn't have a phone at home, in 60's England such a thing was the exception rather than the norm, rather, a phone box could be found pretty much on every corner, and making a call, to my young mind at least, was an adventure rather than an everyday occurrence. Come to think of it, I'm not sure who my parents would ring, I doubt they knew anyone with a home phone. Back then Christmas was a big thing too, home life with my parents was far from perfect, but they did make a big effort to ensure we got all we wished for. The first Christmas I remember clearly would have been 1972. All that year I had dreamt of a cruiser style bicycle, as featured in the DC comics I used to read back then, Superman and the like. Sadly such things were for Americans only, we made do with sit up and beg gentlemen's bikes, or if we were lucky, a drop barred racer. Christmas morning however proved me wrong, in the form of a powder blue Raleigh Chopper, the infamous Mk1 model with screw off gear knob. I loved that bike like no other gift I had ever received, even when the aforementioned gear knob got lost and the lever pierced my thigh. Even when the small front wheel, known for lack of traction at anything above snail pace, got all squirrelly on me, throwing me over the bars and leaving me, at 10, with no front teeth for the remainder of my life. I have no idea what became of that bike. How did I get here? Oh yes, Merry Christmas everyone... Церковь Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы в Путинках. Церковь была заложена в 1649г. и закончена в 1652г. Строить новое каменное здание храма начали после пожара, уничтожившего предыдущую деревянную церковь Рождества Богородицы. The Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos at Putinki. This is one of the most picturesque churches in Moscow and the last major tent-like church in the history of Russian architecture. The Nativity church at Putinki consists of six exquisite tented roofs arranged in a highly unusual composition. Three candle-like tents, placed in a row, crown the church, while its refectory is surmounted by several rows of corbel arches and the fourth tent. The fifth tent is a belltower placed between the church and refectory. The porch also terminates in a pyramidal roof. The church was commissioned by Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich in 1649 in order to grace a highway leading from Moscow to the Trinity Monastery. Construction works were completed within three years. The Soviet authorities closed the church in 1938 but they also funded repair works in 1957. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the church was reopened.

An old front car hanging off the wall and beatiful paintings all around inmediately caught my attention. Me tropece con este pequeno club nocturno escondido mientras curioseaba por un tipico callejon ruso estilo laberinto fuera de la via principal de la Av Sadovaya-Samotechnaya. La parte frontal de un coche saliendo de la pared y unas coloridas pinturas en las paredes capturan de inmediato la atencion.

Strategy-31 is series of civic protests in support of the right to peaceful assembly in Russia guaranteed by Article 31 of the Russian Constitution. Since July 31, 2009, the protests are held in Moscow on Triumfalnaya Square on the 31st of every month with 31 days. Each of the Strategy-31 actions was dispersed by regular and riot police and accompanied by large-scale detentions of participants and passers-by. The guy just in the middle asked me for a photo with his friends, I did it (not this one), but then he couldnt write me his e-mail, he asked me if I'm on Vkontakte (russian version of facebook), I said - no... So see you on December 31 ! lol Moscow. Russia I strongly recommend you this song with great words!

Dostojewskaja im Norden des Moskauer Stadtzentrums ist eine der beiden ganz neuen Moskauer U-Bahnstationen. Sie wurde am 19. Juni 2010 eröffnet. Vier der Pfeiler zwischen der Mittelhalle und den Bahnsteigen zeigen bildliche Darstellungen zu vier ausgewählten Hauptwerken des Klassikers: Братья Карамазовы (Die Brüder Karamasow), Бесы (Die Dämonen), Идиот (Der Idiot) und Преступление и наказание (Schuld und Sühne). Dostojewski-Werke strotzen bekanntlich von Gewalttagen, einschließlich diverser Morde, weshalb von Psychologen kritisiert wurde, die Abbildungen zu den Romanen könnten negativ auf psychisch labile Fahrgäste wirken, welche täglich mit diesen Bildern konfroniert werden. Well, when it is below zero temperature the only place to go in Moscow is below ground - into the Moscow Metro. I had seen some pictures of how ornate and beautiful the subways are in Moscow, and since the system here is topped only by the Tokyo subway system, I figured I had to give it one more shot. Ended up spending around 4 hours underground today and was all over the city. Got stopped numerous times by all sorts of police in the metro but never had any real trouble. I think I have some nice pictures but there were way too many people everywhere I went which was dissapointing since I like pictures without people, but nothing I can do about that. Need my Mac and a lot of time to go through all the shots, so I just grabbed this capture for today.

This is my final Moscow Metro tunnel shot. This one actually is a tunnel, connecting two different lines at the Mayakovskaya station. I didn't want to upload this one because it brought back bitter memories - I waited here for a long time and finally, somehow, I had a chance to grab a completely empty tunnel. And right as I was in the midst of shooting a few exposures, this incredibly rude threesome stood right in front of me and one guy proceeded to take the other two people's pictures, but didn't know how to use the camera, took forever, and by the time they finished, the tunnel was full again. Waited an additional 15 minutes and this was the best I could do. Some people just don't have manners... ----- Allergies are killing me...

This is Mayakovskaya station on the Moscow Metro. This and were the only two stations I was able to wait it out until there were no people in the shot - and believe me, I spent 30min to 1hr per station trying to get the empty shot. I have no time to go somewhere special to take photos, that's why almost all of my latest shots were taken on the road from my job to home. When I look at this one I see the heart shape, oh I think it's definitely a heart. Do you see that? No? Stuck in traffic. It's another pic I've taken from my car while being caught in a traffic jam. Traffic is bad but when I look slighly up I see the buildings (Garden Ring is lined with Stalinist buildings) and even bits of sky above. And I don't see all those cars and angry people around me. Holga, Kodak 160vc, cross. Crossing a negative film produces this strange color.

The girl is a piano player. I was trying to take a shot of her secretly and succeeded only once when she was sitting in a bar right after the concert. I just like it because the image somehow reflects what she was like. Though I find the image somewhat narrow, I still hope you like it.
