Eastern Osprey

Eastern Osprey
Made by WA47 (Trying to catch up)
They have recently removed a large antenna at this site, which, in addition to it's intended function also served for many years as an Osprey nesting and roosting site. When they removed it, they provided the pair of Ospreys with alternative artificial roosts and a nesting site. Unfortunately I have heard that every time that they add nesting material to the nesting site the wind blows it off. Back to the old drawing board.

Grey Teal in the Samphire

Grey Teal in the Samphire
Made by WA47 (Trying to catch up)
The tide in the Swan River estuary was very high on this occasion, apparently because of a dying cyclone which was passing well out to sea. Most of the waders that would normally be in the open water moved into the samphire flats where they were joined by other water birds like this duck. I think that it is a Grey Teal but there have been Chestnut Teals seen there recently.

Sandbar at Alfred Cove

Sandbar at Alfred Cove
Made by WA47 (Trying to catch up)
This is a rough stitch of five photos showing the small section of a sandbar that is showing at this very high tide caused by a dying cyclone out at sea. At lower tides the exposed and shallow areas are very much larger and there are often many migratory waders here.

Sand-bar and the City

Perth city as a backdrop to a busy sandbar. Shows why we are going to need a longer focal length at this site. Australian White Ibis, Black Swan, Pied Cormorant and Little Pied Cormorant at Alfred Cove, Attadale, Western Australia.

A stitched view of the Perth City skyline from Alfred Cove, Attadale. This view looks across the Swan River estuary and the tidal flats that support migratory waders during the northern winter.

Black-tailed Godwit

My first Limosa limosa (36-43 cm). These are not common here, but had I not talked to some other birders I would not have known to focus on them particularly.

It had been bathing in the shallows, then it flew to a perch and by the time I'd clicked the camera it was flying away...

These are my first photos ofTringa nebularia (30-34 cm), which is, as it's common name suggests, common.

Australian Pelicans look rather clumsy on land and in the water but oh so graceful in the air.
