The interior is much smaller than I imagined it would be, but it is jaw-droppingly beautiful. A good-natured priest gave us some of the history of the place and revealed that the roots of the church were the Russian immigrants who lived in the neighborhood. My grandfather was born in that neighborhood (he was Czech, not Russian -- as far as we know), a workingman's neighborhood at the turn of the last century. One has to wonder how the small congregation scraped together the funds to build their cathedral.
