Teenage kicks all through the night.
Made by underthewaves
I was totally not going to upload any more phone photos, but this is one of my favorites this year so I couldn't not upload it, you know? Little too lo-res for my taste, but other than that I dig it. (I prefer my lo-fi high-res.) Treasure island. Nighttime. AGAIN. I've been listening to last.fm radio at work a lot lot lot lately, mostly because I still haven't figured out what music to put on my phone (how you meaningfully condense a 150+GB library into 30 gigs is beyond me). Today, The Undertones' Teenage Kicks popped up and boy was I stoked to hear it. Really think that it's one of the best songs of all time. And as far as titles go, I felt like that fit this image pretty well. There is just something about parking lots at night that make me think of high school. Take that as you will. Off to go do some night shooting along the Embarcadero, exciting times!

The Original Bay Bridge
Made by LUCAS TATAGIBA
www.facebook.com/pages/Lucas-Tatagiba-Photography/2201206... The Original Bay Bridge In 1936, the East and West communities of the Bay Area came together like never before. While ferries had long carried people across the Bay's often choppy waters, automobiles were the future of transportation. This meant local residents wanted a quick way to drive between the rapidly growing cities of San Francisco and Oakland. As expected, as soon as the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was built in 1936, it immediately became the favorite way to travel between San Francisco and the East Bay.

Treasure Island Administrative Building
Made by www78
Treasure Island is a completely artificial island created in 1937 for the Golden Gate International Exposition. Afterward it briefly served as an airport for Pan-American before being taken over by the Navy to serve as a communications base during WWII. The Navy left in 1996 and has fallen under the control of San Francisco, which is converting into a residential park. The administrative building was portrayed in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as Berlin's Tempelhof Airport: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/38/TI_Indy.jpg Treasure Island, San Francisco, California

Cloudy Memory
Made by Jan Herbert
I found this pic while searching for some of my older Sony files-- I do not remember taking this picture & I'm not sure why because it's one of only 2 great SF night shots I've ever gotten. This was taken in December, 2005 & I know we were visiting the city & took our kids to the Hard Rock to celebrate their bdays, but I don't remember taking it. Go figure. I think every building in the city was lit that night, and there's a beakon on top of the TransAmerica building-- you'd think it would be simple to remember such a beautiful sight. Grape Stomping at The Winery in San Francisco
Made by winerysf
The Winery SF brings the wine country experience to San Francisco - literally. We bring grapes in from Napa, Sonoma and all the great growing regions in California and make the wine in San Francisco. And, we love it when people get involve in the wine making! Come down during harvest to help sort grapes, punch down fermentation caps and even stomp grapes! We just ask that you get naked (at least to your thighs) and wash your feet first! To participate in the harvest and here about all of our other parties at The Winery, sign up for our mailing list at winery-sf.com/mailing_list.asp

tempelhof lite
Made by 1600 Squirrels
As my architecture prof used to ask, Can you pick the decade? Since the class was taught by a German professor in Berlin, though, this particular example would have been far too easy - the echoes of Berlin's Nazi-era Tempelhof Airport are so striking, it actually stood in for Tempelhof in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Incidentally, the name Tempelhof comes from the fact that the airport was built on land owned by the Knights Templar in the Middle Ages. Coincidence?

Boiling Sunset over San Fran
Made by Trevor Reoch Photography
Probably the most awesome Sunset that I have ever seen. Taken from Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay in December 2010. No the photo is not mega photoshopped, but has been cropped, slightly rotated, sharpened and slight colour enhancement but this was minimal. I think you could wait a lifetime and never shoot a sunset shot like this again, but we will wait and see what happens The shot was taken on a Pentax K200d mounted on a tripod for a Exposure 1/3rd Second ISO 100 F stop F13 All settings for this shot were manual.

Statues from the Court of Pacifica
Made by www78
Statues that once surrounded a giant fountain with a massive 80-foot goddess of the Pacific Pacifica, symbolizing peace throughout the region, Ironically, both Japan and China were already embroiled in a war that would consume the rest of the Pacific in only four years. Flying Boats to Treasure Island
Made by JB by the Sea
This is a bit of detail on the main administration building on Treasure Island, which was intended to be a terminal for an airport for Pan Am's flying boats. Eventually, the Navy traded land south of San Francisco (which became the home of SF International Airport) for Treasure Island.

Treasure Island Photowalk
Made by Stuart~
Taking a look back at the history of Treasure Island, echoes of the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition and the later use of the island by the Navy. More to follow in a little while.

building one concourse
Made by 1600 Squirrels
According to their website this building was originally designed (in part) to be the terminal for the San Francisco International Airport. Presumably, this would've been the concourse.

Boychild Pauline 2.0
Made by ninavizz
Such a sweet, mischievous, and beautiful little boy. A tad curious/frightening however, how deeply engaged he can be with iPhone anything. Children's engagement with technology and the meatspace world around them, will never fail to fascinate me.

View from Treasure Island
Made by vic_sf49
I was stood in sunshine looking over at the grey murky skies above the city.....shame...that would have been a good city panorama. Thanks MUNI bus 08 for a day trip across the water, without having to contend with sea-sickness on a ferry.

Treasure Island
Made by Xiao C
We ran over to Treasure Island at lunch today to see what's over there - turns out, not a whole lot! It was interesting to get a look at the city from a fresh angle, though, so we grabbed a few quick snaps before heading back.
