There's a niche for everything on Flickr, so I shouldn't have been surprised when I came across a group dedicated to benches. Lonely, broken down benches. As someone who is always telling people to fill landscape shots with something I thought this scene worked pretty well. Getting an image I liked, however, was a different matter. I shot it wide, I shot it with a standard lens and I shot it on film. It wasn't until I broke out the big filters for the Tokina and sat down in the middle of a family picnic did I get the image I wanted.

My family moved north from Newmarket when I was 11 to settle in Innisfil, Ontario. I hated it, for the most part. 100 miles from anything or anyone, I found myself at the lake a lot when I was a kid. My friends and I would go swimming at night, ride our bikes off the dock or ask the foreign visitors to share their barbecue treats. Sure, it sounds like fun now... but try doing any of those in the winter. NOTE: Ontario has two seasons; July, and winter. I was bored a lot as a kid.

Red Moon

A shot of the Lunar Eclipse from early this morning, December 21st 2010. You may have heard. this is the first time in nearly 400 years that a lunar eclipse has occurred on a solstice. My only complaint that it was the winter solstice, I'd much prefer +20C weather to -20C weather for an hour looking at the sky. My Photoblog: don.komarechka.com

Pan-pipe and drum together

A group of Ecuadoreans at Innisfil Beach today. Note the simultaneous playing of pan-pipe and drum! Well-played pipes, with simple drum beat. (His other drum beats were also simple.) I asked him if he'd knew what a 'gaita' was, and he showed me a small fife-sized transverse flute. He had not seen a three-holed pipe before.

Night Sky lit by the Moon

Night Sky lit by the Moon

A photo of the night sky, my attempt to reveal the stars during a full moon. I'd really like to revisit this place without the full moon, to show more of the stars. I do like the glowing horizon though. What do you think? My Photoblog: don.komarechka.com

why would they ever discontinue polariods? the uniqueness of the colours alone should be enough to keep it around. not only that its actually something you can touch, not just a couple of mega pixels floating around in a memory card. watching it develop is pretty rad too/

But not quite as intended ... The three-holed tabor pipe (Susato high D, in white plastic) is being used as a second drum stick for a one-hand drum. The other man is playing my Tony Dixon fife in D.

Spent some time at my brother's Lake Simcoe cottage. The minimalist view of the dock, flower pot, lake and clouds interested me.
