This memorial, in the shadows of the (background) in Trinity Square Gardens, is In Memory of those merchant seafarers who gave thir lives to secure the freedom of the Falkland Islands. The Falkland Islands, also called The Malvinas, are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, located 300 miles (483 kilometres) from the coast of South America. In 1982 the islands were invaded by Argentina, precipitating the two-month-long undeclared Falklands War between Argentina and the United Kingdom, which resulted in the defeat and withdrawal of Argentine forces. Since the war there has been strong economic growth in both fisheries and tourism. The inhabitants of the islands, who are of mainly Scottish descent, are British citizens, and support British sovereignty.

Went for a bit of a stroll on Monday as had an hour to kill before a meeting at head office. Nice to get out and about in London as I rarely get the chance. Will probably feature on Chinese Flickr as I was the subject of many happy snaps. Presumably as amongst the oriental throng of early morning tourists at The Tower I must have stood out 'suited and booted' and wielding my DSLR! :)
