Tiel is the largest town in the Betuwe area, which is famous for being one of the centres of Dutch fruit production. Orchards in the area produce (apples, pears, plums and cherries). Tiel once housed the famous jam factory De Betuwe. After production was moved to Breda in 1993, the entire complex was demolished, although a part was reconstructed later. Reminding of this industry is a jam manufacturing museum and a statue of Flipje, the raspberry-based comic figure who starred in De Betuwe's advertisements since the 1930's.

This BTS sheerleg is placing a new catch in the locks of Tiel. The name of this sheerleg is Amsterdam. Tech specs: Amsterdam Length: 41540 Breadth working (incl. side pontoons): 17850 Breadth working (excl. side pontoons): 11500 Min. draught : 1170 Max. draught (ballast tanks filled + max. load) : 3500 Airdraught sheerlegs and flyjib laid down forward on pontoon: 6000 Airdraught sheerlegs laid down backwards (seapassage): 17000 Gross tonnage: 759.1 Max. capacity: 300 Propulsion: 2 schottelnavigators of 275hp each BTS is standalone, but fully owned by Mammoet. BTS takes care of the marine part of Mammoet. They use the same office as Mammoet in Schiedam. They own 3 sheerlegs and a few tug boats and crane pontoons.

De Betuwe in februari, maar wel uit een andere tijd: 29 jaar geleden. Van Betuweroute is echter nog geheel geen sprake. Wat wel? Welnu: spitstreinen die worden gereden door gezellige groene stroomlijntreinen uit de tijd van de wederopbouw. Geen WiFi, mobieltjes, smartphones, laptops, iPads, fastfood uitdeel-/wegwerpkranten, energy drink en andere drankjes uit wegwerpflesjes. Evenmin koffiedrinkers die zich bedienen gesloten drinktuitjesbekers. Even later rijden ze weg: 6 bakken Mat '46, om als puntje te verdwijnen aan de horizon: begeleid door het analoge gezoem van de elektrische treinmotoren. Anno 2011 alleen nog te vinden bij de onvolprezen Plan V. [zucht] NS 649 + 236 Tiel, 16 februari 1982

Engineers are having lunch and parked their train at Tiel before leaving to Utrecht. At the right is a rebuilt 1950 diesel train, nicknamed blue angel (these trains were blue when new in 1950). In the early nineties NS still ran freight trains to Tiel and Kesteren. In the early morning a train from Utrecht arrived, ran to Kesteren and served some local industries. After a short break, the train went to Tiel to serve the local glass factory. All this is history now. Current operator DB Schenker isn't interested in serving small customers and Dutch rail authority ProRail has removed most of the industrial sidings to prevent new freight traffic.

NS 6422 has just arrived from Utrecht at Tiel. At the right is a 1954 dog nose in the Utrecht-Tiel service. In the early nineties NS still ran freight trains to Tiel and Kesteren. Op 25 maart 2005 strandde trein 6061 (stellen 444+850) in Tiel vanwege brand in tractiemotor 3 van de 850, op 26 maart 2005 stonden de onfortuinlijke stellen nog steeds in Tiel langs spoor 3, omdat de treindienst van/naar Ah vanwege werkzaamheden gestremd was vormde dit geen probleem voor de treindienst want de treinen van/naar Ut konden gewoon op spoor 2 worden afgehandeld. Afgebeeld de 850+444 op spoor 3 en de 961+457 als 6038 op spoor 2, een leuke line-up :-) Niet digitaal gemanipuleerd!

Tiel, de Waal, 12 mei 2011. Motorvrachtschip 'Adriaan-R' uit Nes a/d Amstel passeerd deze plaats, op de achtergrond het verkeersleidings/radarpost bij de monding van `t A`dams-Rijnkanaal. De Adriaan-R zal over enkele minuten het dorp Dreumel passeren alwaar hij 45 jaar geleden bij Van Rossum`s Scheepsbouw werd gebouwd. In het vaartuig prutteld een Deutz 465 pk motor en heeft er weinig last aan want schip is leeg en vaart stroomafwaarts.

Het Plein te Tiel tijdens de 'Blaue Stunde'. Het Plein is de uitgaansplaats van deze stad. Het poortje links is de z.g. Waterpoort en is in 1979 herbouwd nadat ie in 1944 plat is gebombardeerd. Het grote gebouw rechts ervan is de z.g. Grote Societeit' en huisvest nu het Flipje & Streekmuseum. Links en rechts van het plein een aaneenschakeling van cafe`s, restuarants en winkeltjes Let op, Flipje is ook hier aanwezig ;-)

Winters Tiel op 29 november 2010. Treinstel 55 van Syntus gereed om als trein 31167 naar Arnhem te vertrekken, rechts de 2137+2950 als 6069/70 van/naar Utrecht Het sneeuwt nog want de rails van spoor 2 zijn ook aardig besneeuwd! Let op de uitsparing in het hekwerk op spoor 1, da`s voor zichtbaarheid van `t dwergseintje

The catch is slowly being moved into position. The replacing of the catch and lock doors is part of a big renovation project of the Prins Bernhardsluizen in Tiel. Total costs of the renovation is 30million euro's. The BTS sheerleg is called Amsterdam and BTS is an independable daughter company fully owned by Mammoet.

Tiel, 30 augustus 2011 Uitzicht vanuit `t nieuwe huis, vanaf de bovenste verdieping maar nu nog vrij zicht naar de toren van de Sint Maartenskerk die zich mooi laat beschijnen in het avondlicht. De toren is uit 1440 maar in de nadagen van de 2e Wereldoorlog flink beschadigd geraakt, de herbouw kwam in 1965 gereed.

Tiel, 12 augustus 2010, station volbezet tijdens ochtendspits want op spoor 1 de 35 (spitsstel maar niet gereden?). spoor 2 de 39 die met +2 als 31115 naar Za vertrok en op spoor 3 de 2978 + 2956 als 6018 naar Ut gereed.

Syntus treinstel 51 komt vanuit Arnhem in een heerlijk zonnetje Tiel binnen gereden als trein 31144. Op de voorgrond ligt de aansluiting naar de glasfabriek, waar in 2005 voor het laatst een glastrein over heen reed.

Het Ambtmanshuis is een belangrijk monument in Tiel. Het pand heeft verschillende gevels uit verschillende perioden. Tegenwoordig huisvest het Ambtmanshuis het dagelijks bestuur van de gemeente Tiel.
