This arch was once the main sluice of a tidal flour mill known as Tide Mills, the remains can be found signposted from the A259 between Seaford and Newhaven, East Sussex. I assume the toothed bar was once part of the sluice mechanism. I cannot help but wonder how much electricty a tidal mill such as this could produce...

This shot shows the mill creek and the remains of the mill at Tide Mills between Newhaven and Seaford, East Sussex. The mill originally stood on this bridge, the wheels were under the arches.
