London City Hall
Made by J.Salmoral
City Hall in London, informally known as the Leaning Tower of Pizzas or Fosters Nutsack (see also 30 St Mary Axe), is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London. It stands on the south bank of the River Thames, in the More London development by Tower Bridge. Designed by Norman Foster, it opened in July 2002. The building has an unusual bulbous shape, intended to reduce the building's surface area and thus improve energy efficiency. It has been compared variously to Darth Vader's helmet, a misshapen egg, a woodlouse or a motorcycle helmet. London Mayor Ken Livingstone referred to it as a glass testicle. Its designers reportedly saw the building as a giant sphere hanging over the Thames, but opted for a more conventionally rooted building instead. The building has no front or back on conventional terms but derives its shape from a modified sphere. If you want you can see my most interesting photos in this

The Queen's House
Made by f0rbe5
Begun as the Lieutenant's Lodgings in 1540, it was constructed on the site of a 14th century Constable's residence. Parts of this medieval stone building survive beneath the Tudor timber-framed lodgings. The name of the building changes according to whether the monarch is a king or queen. Originally it contained a spacious hall two stories high; later, a floor was added to the upper part of the hall creating a room called the Council Chamber. In the north wing (to the right in the photo above) is a small room where Anne Boleyn spent the last days of her life.

Extra Protection

Apparently Henry VIII was a big man all around, and wanted to protect the Crown Jewels! :) With all the women in his life, it must have been a smart idea! Explore Highest position: 432 on Friday, October 5, 2007
