on days like this I'm sooo bored.....
Made by Zino2009
and what a day it was, last saturday was a day to stay in bed, it was dark, grey, wet and miserable and just on a day like this I had a meeting at Burgers Zoo in Arnhem. four times a year we planned a business family-day somewhere in Holland and yes, this time a Zoo ;-) fortunately a Zoo with plenty of space to hide. It has a indoor jungle, ocean and desert under one roof all connected to each other for several hours of fun and education. But...when it's raining outside it's getting crowded by the minute inside !!! So, at the time it stopped pouring I protected the camera against the drizzling rain and started to walk towards to outdoor safari along the lions and leopards.. maybe, maybe I can catch one of these big cats and yes, luckely me, two of them were in sight and looked very very bored, I think they had the same idea about the weather as I had..... lay down, open your eyes when it's really necessary and try to catch some sleep when you can.... Next time I'll plan my Zoo-day by my selves, that's for sure !!!! Camera Sony DSLR-A200 Exposure 0.05 sec (1/20) Aperture f/6.3 Focal Length 250 mm ISO Speed 800 press L for a larger view !!

Arnhem - Curtained Cupboard Beds
Made by WVJazzman
The Open-Air Folklore Museum in Arnhem is set in over 100 acres of wooded parkland. Around 80 authentic farmhouses, cottages, barns, windmills, workshops, a schoolhouse, a church and a steam-operated dairy factory have been assembled here to illustrate rural architecture and life in the past. The buildings, from all over the Netherlands, are decorated and furnished authentically. Demonstrations of a variety of handicrafts add interest to the visit. Cupboard beds (sometimes called Dutch Beds) can be found throughout Holland. They've been popular for centuries in France, Italy, and other European countries. The famous US marshal Wyatt Earp slept in a Dutch Bed in his boyhood home in Pella, Iowa. They are found in lake homes in Wisconsin. In Denmark, they are called hulseng — which means ‘hole-bed;’ a family at a tiny cottage in Ribe, Denmark slept six people in one such cupboard bed. In Holland, whole families slept in Dutch Beds sitting upright — but nowadays these beds are built long enough to lay down in comfort.

Arnhem - Dutch Reformed Church

The Dutch Reformed Church was one of many branches of churches coming out of the Protestant Reformation in Europe in the sixteenth century. While the Dutch Reformed Church was based in the Netherlands, other churches of the Reformation began in France, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, England, and Scotland. Like some of the churches in these other countries, the theology and practice of the Dutch Reformed Church was based on the teachings of John Calvin and the many other Reformers of his time.

a quiet moment
Made by falleri
Alobmot. Or tombola. We went to the 'open air museum' today and I took my last shots on a roll of Kodak T-Max. It was crazy busy and crazy cold and we couldn't find a seat to get ourselves a drink and some pancakes- my favourite part of visiting this place! (yes I am all about food) Ah well. Better luck next time. We had fun nonetheless. I just developed the film, can't say I'm all too pleased with the results. Discovered another light leak in the shutter. Crap. (if you look closely, you can see one of the leaks on the bottom of the crate, in some negatives they are more prominent, in others they are just absent) Also, the T-Max turned out rather flat. And I need something to clean up my negatives after rinsing (used adoflo but still) I really have to get back into experimenting with different brands of film and developer and all of that..! 2011-01-02 lcIIIf 29

From above
Made by mendhak
I originally took this photo thinking that I'll modify it in Lightroom. I really want to make it like those wallpaper-quality photos of roads you usually see - soft focus, heavily saturated. But as always, I ended up opening in Lightroom, then exporting straightaway to Flickr. So I'm basically using Lightroom as a very expensive upload tool. But still, a nice road. The road leads your eye towards the canopy at the top. Edit: I took this photo by throwing the camera as high up as I could. Then suddenly, a golden eagle soared down and grasped the camera and pressed the shutter button with its beak. Then it dropped the camera as an open-air truck loaded with trampolines was passing by, the camera bounced off and landed back into my hands.

welcome in my jungle...
Made by Zino2009

boerderij Staphorst
Made by Tony 1975
Horse mill
Made by Anieteke
This mill was powered by horses in the old days. Now there is electricity, but they projected the horse on the screen. So it looked like if the horse was walking the rounds for the mill... Photo made with 3200 ISO and 1/30 sec @ f 3,5 @ 18mm because it was almost dark inside!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Teus is an enthousiastic and prominent beekeeper in Lunteren in the Netherlands. Here he is showing the art of producing skeps, on an event in the open air museum of Arnhem. For those who seem to be interested in beekeeping, he will immediately offer the opportunity to follow a course, either for making skeps or for beekeeping. With succes!

Arnhem - Polder (Pumping) Mill
Made by WVJazzman
This polder mill is one of several located in the Open-Air Folklore Museum in Arnhem. Polder mills were used for drainage purposes (there are none in the east of the country, where the height above sea level ensures natural drainage of water). Industrial mills were used for a wide variety of purposes, such as milling wheat, extracting oil, hulling rice and peppercorns, and sawing wood. Some of these are still is use today.

GETA-76.2
Made by Charles HTM
Replica of a streetcar from GETA, the former tramway operator in Arnhem, The Netherlands. The car was completely rebuilt with many used parts from old Rotterdam streetcars. It's now on standard gauge, actually the gauge type used in Arnhem was 1067 mm. Most of the Arnhem tramway system was completely bombed at Operation Market Garden.
