Jaguar Petticoats in San Francisco Hotels

[original texture ]

The Jukebox
Made by Jill Clardy
The Marriott Hotel on 4th Street in San Francisco has long been described as The Jukebox for it's interesting architecture. On a foggy morning in San Francisco I was messing around shooting many images in B&W since the day was relatively colorless anyway. The color version is shown below, but I think I actually prefer the B&W. By the way, there's a great view from the bar behind that semicircular window on the top floor, but don't sit on the west side in late afternoon - on a sunny day you will roast !

The general concensus seems to be that this year's bag is the nicest in a long while, and I tend to agree. My 2004 bag started to fall apart soon after getting home. Instead of a notebook with the schedule & maps, they broke it out into separate sheets, which is nice, but I would have made them small enough to fit inside the badge holder. EDIT: I'm a dumbass, there's a slot on the back for the schedule. Oh, and the badge holder? OMGXBOGHUGE.

Splendour

Joy & I have been staying at the Mosser Hotel this week in San Francisco while apartment hunting. Come join us on this video tour of our luxurious suite. (This is primarily a test to see what breaks on my blog when I post a video to Flickr -- Seems to have worked pretty smoothly, but goddamn, there needs to be a way of choosing the frame that becomes the thumbnail!)

San Francisco Timelapse
Made by barnoid
Six hours and 14 minutes of the view from our room in the Marriot on Fourth Street. 702 photos taken with a Canon PowerShot S2 IS running CHDK, batch processed with Imagemagick then movied with mencoder. Featuring a moonset followed by dawn resulting in a fade to white. The fade is unintentional, it's due to me accidentally leaving the camera in shutter priority mode, oops.

Out of the Closet

this is actually one of my 365 outtakes (see my reflection?), but i just LOVED this hanger display in the container store on 4th street. i love rainbows in general, and this weekend is gay pride weekend in SF, so the double meaning was not lost on me. i know it's slightly crooked, but i thought that was actually quite fitting. ;-)

wet colors
Made by Joits
it rained pretty heavily for most of saturday in the city. i was inside most of the time but afterwards, we did a little walking around and got to take some pics of the city that was still wet from the rain. i hardly get to do this when i'm home so i wanted to take advantage of this time. this was directly across our hotel...

And... the Metreon!
Made by Jessica E Sideways
This is also known as Sony's Centre of Broken Dreams. It was sold to Westfield, a mall management company but it doesn't seem to work as a mall as everything that seems to be there closes down within a few months. The movie theatre seems to be the only thing in the Metreon that is permanent...

SOOC

Nikon F100 + Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 + Fuji Velvia RVP100F I hate when people say SOOC. it really bothers me. like, cool, you didn't do any post, your picture looks like it came sooc. I did some post on this. so I guess I'm lying. but seriously, it's like saying hey look I made a bread sandwich!

...is the best advice you can get from a stranger. Photo taken on the Creative Safari at Macworld 2009 hosted by Steve Simon. Taken outside the Marriott on 4th and Mission in San Francisco, CA with the new Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens...beautiful.

This is where we stayed for the 2007 MLB Baseball All-Star Game. Many of the Legends stayed here. The players were at the Westin St. Francis. The MLB headquarters was at the Hilton. Major renovation has started and this will look much different next year.

We've passed by gazillions of times but never thought to stop in - it seemed very old and Tenderloin-ish. But on a recommendation, we had lunch after visiting the car show and decided that it was definitely worth coming back to again.

Moonrise, San Francisco
Made by rao_anirudh
A spectacular view of the crescent moon rising over downtown San Francisco from The View, a restaurant on the 39th floor of the Marriott Marquis. San Francisco City Hall is seen in the center of the picture.

I'm pretty sure this was a bank in its first life. There are what look very much like a row of teller cage windows separating the bar from the restaurant. The pulled pork sandwich is highly recommended.
