Oratoire St-Joseph entrance in Montreal during Blue Hour
Made by Jonathan Grenier
Even though I've been living in this city all my life (30 years), this was my first real visit to the city's well known Oratoire St-Joseph. It's a beautiful place. I was planning a multiple exposure shot of this view and this was the last exposure I took expecting it to be a waste of time (4 minutes, +4 EV). It ended up being my favorite shot and I decided not to go with HDR in the end.

The Basilica
Made by .:Axle:.
Construction on the Basilica began in 1924 and at the time of Brother Andre's death in 1937 the massive dome was not yet completed. In fact the Basilica wasn't inaugurated until March 19th, 1955. The walls are concrete and Canadian granite, and the floors are of quartzite. It can hold up to 10,000 people (2,200 seated).

The Votive Chapel
Made by Dae-Wang
The Votive Chapel constructed between 1946 and 1949 as an annex to the Crypt Church, the Votive Chapel is the work of architect Louis Parent. There was not enough room on the the walls of the Crypt Church to hold all the crutches, canes, braces and other devices left behind by the sick who had been healed.

The Crypt Church
Made by .:Axle:.
This particular church was built in 1918 and designed by Dalbe Viau and Alphonse Venne. Seating capacity for 1,000. It is called a Crypt church because of the vaulted flat arches and is situated at the base of the Basilica. The entire layout was reorganized in 1966.

Top of Montreal

St Joseph's Oratory in Montreal Quebec. It literally sits on top of a hill, I wish I could have gotten a good wide angle shot but the weather made it look depressing. Happy Holidays everyone!

The Chapel
Made by .:Axle:.
Pretty much has remained as it was first built in 1904 a small space (15' x 18'). The alter was carved by hand during the winter of 1906 by Brother Abundius. The chapel was damaged by fire in 1951 but faithfully restored to the original plans.

St. Joseph's Oratory - HDR
Made by .:Axle:.
The site that now houses the Oratory began it's life as a place of worship in 1904, when Brother Andre built a small chapel to St. Joseph (The husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus). Today this massive worship complex rises above Mount Royale.

The Grand Organ
Made by .:Axle:.
Built by Rudolf Von Bekerath of Hamburg West Germany it took 2 years to build and 7 months to install. It contains 5,811 pipes and 78 stops. There are five keyboards plus the pedal board. And I had the honour of hearing it play. Awesome.

12.2 St. Joseph's Oratory
Made by Whirl256
I usually like photographing this building at night because of the way it's lit up. When I walked by this afternoon, the soft fog hanging over it (which didn't render so well in this picture :( ) appealed to me.

This small chapel was the first thing that we saw when we went inside the building, but they were finishing a service, so we waited to photograph it until we were on our way out.
