Back to Montreal

Back to Montreal
Made by boihoannguyen
I haven't uploaded a picture from Montreal in quite a while I think. Well I was there last weekend, and I was told that there was quite the storm in Ottawa. So I figured I'd see the same storm in Montreal within 2 hours or so. So naturally, I packed my stuff and headed out to try and get some pictures of it. I was actually quite unlucky with lightning this time, although I did manage to get a few good shots. But I usually missed the big flashes right after I stopped shooting. DRI blended from 3 exposures. I was just shooting picture after picture hoping for some lightning, and I decided to take a break from it to take an underexposed and an overexposed shot. Being the unlucky guy that I am, lightning struck as I was shooting the +2EV shot. So I had to use Adobe Camera Raw to bring it down to a correct exposure for this picture.

St. Joseph's Oratory at night

I've been meaning to take a picture of St. Joseph's Oratory at night for a while now. But winter got in the way. As you might be able to tell by the clouds, it was quite windy that day, and I was afraid it would rain, so I left. I would have liked a picture when it got darker though. 3 exposures tone mapped in Photomatix. Some layer masking in Photoshop for the lights and light reflections in the cars. Then some curves adjustments and sharpening like always. Best appreciated at this size

These lightning strikes were pretty far away from where I was. I was just shooting randomly while waiting for them to get closer to get better shots of them. Then eventually, they were behind me. It didn't really mean much to me back then, but in retrospect, I should have known that the rain was coming. Maybe a minute after, it started pouring... Processed from a single RAW exposure.

Outside of the Oratory is a garden for meditation, prayer, and reflection, with statues representing the Way of the Cross. The statues were designed by Louis Parent in the 1940s and 1950s, and carved from Indiana buff stone and Carrera marble by Ercolo Barbieri in the 1950s.

St Joseph's Basilica, the biggest and baddest church in Montreal. Situated in the Southwest section of the city, this fortress was built on the side of a large hill, and can be seen from many parts of the city.

Some shots taken inside the highest part of St-Josephs basilica, referred to as the oratory. I keep thinking aviary due to its location at the top of the hill.

Should have remember the barrel distortion on the G10 and taken a couple steps back and use a different focal length. Oh well looks a bit fish eyed.
