these are photos taken at the Texas Prison Museum in Huntsville, Texas. info from a museum display: prison warden R. F. Coleman quit before the first execution, saying a man couldn't be a warden and a killer. electrocutions began February 8th, 1924. the chair was nicknamed old sparky and electrocutions were referred to as riding the thunderbolt. four sets of brothers died on the electric chair, each pair on the same night. men ranging from age 17 to 66 were electrocuted. electrocution was ruled cruel & unusual punishment in june of 1972 and lethal injection was adopted in may of 1977. round of applause for texas.
