Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pino (Basilica of Our Lady of the Pine) in Teror, Gran Canaria, Spain. La Virgen del Pino (The Virgin of the Pine) is the patron saint of Gran Canaria. It is told that in the 15th century the image of the Virgin Mary appeared on a pine tree at the place where the basilica stands today. Inside the basilica is a magnificent figure of la Virgen del Pino that we didn't see because the church was already closed. Gran Canaria holiday december 2003.

One of the town's most interesting feature is the church Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pino. It's located right in the centre of the town and was built back in the 1700's. It's quite an impressive structure. The religious Centre of the Island and the 4th biggest town. Known for the Pine Madonna. Tradition says, that she in 1400 saved the town from a bad drought, and since then she has been the patron saint of the town. In the church you find a treasury filled with gifts for the Pine Madonna.

Church in Teror, Gran Canaria. The legend has it that in 1481 a vision of the Virgin Mary had appeared to some shepherds on the top of a pine tree and since then Nuestra Señora del Pino (Our Lady of the Pines) played an important role in the history and the everyday life of the people of Gran Canaria. When in 1914 the Pope Pius XII proclaimed her patron saint of the island, the small town of Teror, with its sanctuary, became the religious capital of the island.

ADRIANA VARELA dio un excelente concierto de tangos arrabaleros y orilleros en el Auditorio de Teror. Teror is an old Canarian. Unlike the name suggests, it's actually a delightful, little village, peaceful and very charming. It's known as the city with the balconies because of the many beautifully carved white balconies that are on display all throughout the town. This is typical of Canarian houses in this region.

Lugar de peregrinación para los grancanarios. La basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino se encuentra en el pueblo de Teror, en la isla de Gran canaria. Cada 7 de septiembre, miles de grancanarios van caminando desde distintos puntos de la isla hasta la basílica para rendir homenaje a su virgen.
