Greendell Station, Lackawanna Cutoff 1988
Made by jeffs4653
Greendell Station on the former Lackawanna Cutoff. This photo was taken in July 1988, four years after Conrail abandoned the line and removed the rails, but many years after all passenger service stopped on the line. Since this photo was taken, the State of New Jersey has reacquired the right of way, and there are plans to refurbish the line and restart passenger commuter service between Scranton Pa and Hoboken NJ/Penn Station NY. A grandiose billion dollar plan that I think will never happen. More recently, this station has been given a new roof, and stabilized. The roof in this picture is green terracotta. The current roof is standard shingles. Scan from a 35mm slide. The Lackawanna Cut-Off was a 28 mile high-speed, double-track railway line which was constructed by the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad between 1908 and 1911. The Cut-Off runs west from Port Morris, New Jersey to Slateford, Pennsylvania. Considered an engineering masterpiece, the Cut-Off is a premier example of modern right-of-way construction, which minimizes grades, curves, and vehicular crossings. The Cut-Off pioneered the use of reinforced concrete on a grand scale, as well as the use of massive cutting and filling. Between 1908 and 1911 it was one of the largest construction projects in the world, and required moving massive amounts of fill using steam shovels similar to those that worked on the Panama Canal. Despite running through hills and across valleys, the Cut-Off never exceeds a gradient of 0.6%, with no curves having a speed limit of less than 70 mph.

storm's a brewin'
Made by • estatik •
For about 5 to 10 minutes this storm was racing towards me, making the most fantastic cloud formations before the wind actually kicked up. The light band at the middle of the photograph was where I estimated the rain line to be, and I was accurate. So I had a total of about 10 minutes to shoot before I had to duck inside. This photo is actually a hand-made HDR (and it shows if you view it full size) (please don't) from one RAW image. I tried to replicate here what the scene actually looked like to the eye, which I just couldn't capture with the camera. It should be pointed out that for this shot I was trying to follow the rule of thirds, since a straight shot of the clouds would have been pretty boring. The construction stuff made that fairly easy. Even more fortunate was the fact that the guys had already gone home for the day, so this backhoe was stationary- but luckily the angle of the bucket is perfect- it looks like it's going in for the kill. (And you all thought I only photograph at night...)

Milford-Montague Bridge over Delaware River - HDR
Made by SnarkPhoto
The Milford-Montague Toll Bridge (also known as the US 206 Toll Bridge) is a truss bridge crossing the Delaware River, connecting Montague Township, New Jersey to Milford, Pennsylvania on U.S. Route 206. The two-lane bridge, which opened on December 30, 1953, has a total length of 1,150 feet (350 meters), and is operated by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. Tolls are collected only from motorists traveling westbound, into Pennsylvania. The toll for automobiles is $0.75. The bridge was approved in 1951, to replace an existing crossing at the site that dated from 1889.[1] The Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge, the Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge and the Milford-Montague Toll Bridge were all constructed simultaneously by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, with work on all three started on October 15, 1951, and all three bridge openings spaced approximately every two weeks in December 1953.[2][ - Wikepedia

It's hard to decorate the Christmas tree when you have no hands!

Are you asking yourself why I have pictures of a creepy doll head? Well let me fill you in. The 3 Traveling Doll Heads originated in Los Angeles where a group of us got together to shoot for a day and decided to add props. A few peeps chose doll heads and shot them all over the city. We decided to make these creepy heads famous by starting a group and shooting them around the world. Check out the to see their crazy adventures. And join in the fun if you'd like to have one of these beauties bunk with you for a while. Creepy Creeperhead arrived on my doorstep right before Thanksgiving and she even came with gifts (Thanks Cristin!!). We had plans to visit NYC today but unfortunately work got in the way. I promised her on the next trip I'd take her to see the Statue of Liberty :) Right now she's on her way to her next destination - the North Pole! Here are some highlights from her short stay with us:

My Work Bag
Made by pennuja
I cleaned out my work bag tonight and figured I would take a picture of what is in my bag. I am a Crestron programmer, and I am usually onsite by myself so I need to be prepared. After laying it all out I was surprised how much I fit in the bag and still have some space left. This is what I bring almost everyday, I have a couple of other bags that I use to bring more specialty items with me when needed I Will Take Some Pics When I Clean Them Out Hover To See Notes For More Info On Each Item... Strobist: 2 YN460-II on either side of the items. I ended up using them with shoot through umbrellas, I tried several ways hoping to kill the glare and this was the best I could get.

30 Seconds with Irene - 6 1/2 Days No Electricity.
Made by GAPHIKER
Sunday was an interesting day with no electricity, Hurricane Irene still blowing strong and rivers rising, I got out and took this picture of what was a country lane to an uninhabited farm in the Delaware Water Gap Nat'l Rec. Area. Interesting that this image paints an idyllic view of what would appear to most as a devastating event. I'm not sure how that occured but I do believe that a balance exists in nature and maybe it's just the way I see things! Anyway, I'm just back on-line Saturday with electricity finally returning to my home. 30 second exposure with a B&W ND3.0 Filter, minimum color adjusts, pretty straight shot.

Factory Falls, Delaware Water gap
Made by Arun Sundar
Photographed is the Factory Falls in the Delaware water gap recreational area, Pennsylvania. I have visited Bushkill falls multiple times and I was never aware that so many beautiful falls are present in and around Bushkill area. Today, i visited over 5 different falls, each about a mile or two hike from the roads. Factory falls (photographed here) is located in George W. childs Recreation site, which is an upstream falls for a much famous Fulmer falls, It was raining/drizzling all day long, I somehow managed to click some satisfying pictures, despite drenching my camera gear and cleaning it every now and then.

Silver Spray Falls (Revisited)
Made by Nicholas_T
Silver Spray Falls (or Hidden Falls), Sussex County, within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. An unblazed trail leads to the falls from Mountain Road south of Walpack Center. The stream, an unnamed tributary of Big Flat Brook, forms a deep, narrow, rhododendron- and hemlock-filled ravine through the west slope of Kittatinny Mountain. There are additional falls upstream; however, access is difficult. The trail all but disappears, and the ravine steepens sharply.

Red Eft, P6020048
Made by Anita363
Having just been instructed in how to tell a Pileated Woodpecker call from a Flicker, I went chasing one in a boggy area trying to get a visual confirmation. The other-side-of-the-tree-bird did not cooperate (altho I did find spots where it had been drumming), but I saw lots of other interesting plants & animals. This is the eft (immature forest-floor-dwelling) form of the Red-spotted Newt. It's only ~2.5 long. When it grows up it will become yellowish with black spots & go live in the water & lay/fertilize eggs.

I'm Coming Down Fast But I'm Miles Above You
Made by *CantBuyMeLove*
A shot of Dingmans Falls from a recent trip that passed through northern Pennsylvania. It was a cold and dreary weekday (typical), however there were no less than a dozen tripods lined up on the platform beneath these falls. For some reason I felt a heavy stare begin from my photo brethren while twisting on my 8-stop ND...like I wasn't going to move from my prime spot the rest of the morning or something. Got what I came for and left hearing only a few elderly grumbles :-) Crap...it's !! Enjoy your weekends everyone!!

Corn Field and Orb Weaver
Made by GAPHIKER
I took this shot of the corn field across the street from the sunflower field to check on my exposure. I took one shot and it was pretty overexposed but I quickly turned my attention to the sunflowers. When I got home I liked it and there is a hugh spider web in the grass that I had no idea was there (happens alot in my photos) I tried to process for HFF but it didn't work out so I tried again today and I like the effect. I also thought about it for HSS but then the Monarch came along. Texture by: ~Brenda-Starr~

Raymondskill Falls - Pike County, Pa.
Made by Michael Pancier Photography
After hiking at Bushkill Falls, the rains came down but I didn't care. I headed to one of the tallest falls in the area, Raymondskill Falls. This one had a decent flow (even though it can be way stronger). Fortunately, i had my rain cover and I managed a few shots cause after all, this was perfect waterfall conditions. Heck, I took this shot at 1:30 in the afternoon. This pic is of the middle falls. Camera Canon EOS 5D Mark II + 24-105L + Polarizer Exposure 2 secs Aperture f/22.0 Focal Length 32 mm ISO Speed 50

Boys and their toys
Made by Butterfly Psyche
Taken a while ago; I'm posting it now for a photo game. My brother's in-laws live near a woodland pond, which is usually much deeper than it is in this picture - every spring all the neighbors get together to dredge the pond, take out all the fallen leaves, trash, algae and so forth, although they do capture and relocate all the fish, frogs, and other critters first. The kids love splashing in the mud and catching the fish! West Milford, NJ, April 28 2007.

The Sunflower Field - The View From the Road
Made by GAPHIKER
This view from the road was quite the challenge to get the light the way I wanted it. This morning seemed to work out and I even had some active pigeons. A good patch of Common Mullein on the left qualifies this shot as a weed shot. Straight with color adjusts. The rows are in a straight line but run up and over a hill, the 150mm flattens them into these backward integral signs. I have been driving past them and finally got the light to show them off.

I'll take some sprinkles on my sprinkles
Made by quick5pnt0
This is a macro shot of sprinkles. If you're wondering what they are, they're the tiny candy things you put on ice cream, although this picture makes them look like multi colored hot dogs...LOL The image looks somewhat blurry, or grainy but that is just due to how close the image is and how it was taken (with a binocular lense for increased magnification, the poor man's macro) Ford Mustang News

Summer Gold - New Jersey Barley Field
Made by GAPHIKER
New Jersey grows hay, corn and alfalfa but is not realy known for growing Barley. I found this field growing nearby and loved the lines and color. I don't add this too often but the detail really shows better in the Lightbox. UPDATE: At first I thought this was Wheat but shastajak questioned it being wheat and suggested that it was Barley. I now believe its BARLEY. Everything still holds and it is beautiful!! Thanks shastajak!!

G10 Fishey Set Up
Made by NJdez
This was my original custom fisheye setup for the G10. I took a .45x wide angle lens with macro correction element and mounted the wide angle head by self using a 58mm macro adapter. Doing so exagerates the barrel distortion and gives a much wider field of view. Was fun for a while, but flaring when shooting in bright light stopped me from using it outdoors. I now have a .20x Opteka fisheye which is much wider and plenty fishy!

Overgrown
Made by Nicholas_T
Abandoned lime kiln, Johnsonburg Swamp Preserve, Warren County. Many years ago, farmers took advantage of the area's limestone-rich soil by burning the limestone in the kilns and spreading the ash, or quicklime, as fertilizer. Machines have long since replaced lime kilns; however, many of these relics survive in the dense forests that have reclaimed much of the farmland. The Nature Conservancy owns and manages the preserve.

Purple Flower Macro
Made by quick5pnt0
Purple / White flower macro. Unfortunately I don't know the name of this particular flower. This image looks like its of a sunflower but this flower is actually about the size of a quarter. This was taken with a Panasonic FZ15 using a small binocular lense for increased mangnification. If anyone know the name of this type of flower please let me know. Ford Mustang News

Horsetail
Made by Nicholas_T
Silverthread Falls, Pike County, within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This 80-foot cascade lies a short distance from Dingmans Falls, one of Pennsylvania's highest falls. For some reason, the park service had closed the visitors' center, as well as the trail leading to the falls, when I visited. I hiked the trail anyway, enjoying the absence of people. (The area gets crowded with tourists.)
