Looking southwest at the grain elevator at Supplee, Washington. This was one of several grain-loading stops on a now-abandoned railroad line (at right). This image was an attempt to duplicate a photo that appeared in a railroad magazine years earlier when the railroad was still operating. In that photo, a train was on the main line, switching cars onto the siding that led to the elevator. I duplicated the angle pretty well, but the lighting was all wrong: the magazine shot was taken in the morning and mine in the afternoon. The vantage point of this photo is at the center of this WikiMapia aerial view. Seen during a road trip in eastern Washington in 2003, during which I visited two sections of the long-abandoned Mansfield Branch of the Great Northern Railway: Supplee and Withrow.
