Sorry this is a lousy picture, but I wanted to share one of my favorite houses in town. This house has a long and interesting history, it was even a sorority house in the early part of the 1900s! The neighborhood revitalization of this part of town is called Sunnyside UP! but it should be called Sunnyside DOWN, as all of this house's lovely neighbors have been falling down, demolished for apartments and parking lots, or succumbing to arson attacks one by one over the years. This lovely house is one of the last of the beautiful neighborhood that was, and has since become a student ghetto. Many others are now gone, and I hate that I have lost my opportunities to take pictures. It's porch was torn off a few years ago and replaced, and the pillars lay in the yard for weeks. It originally featured iron roof cresting and a finnial on the tower. I really love this house, I wish I could afford to buy it and fix it up. It's location is really unfortunate and I expect it will be demolished one day and replaced with ugly, trailer-stacked apartments like the rest of the neighborhood. That day will break my heart! I abhor the destruction of this once-lovely area.

This little cottage is the only true mansard roof residence remaining in town. It tries hard to be a full grown victorian, but it's so small and cute! This house is in a bad section of town... it's all student rental for the most part... so despite my dreams of buying this charmer and restoring it, I bargain it will be replaced by drab apartments in a few years or so :( However, it may soon be included in a historic district, but of course that won't protect it from greedy landlords. This neighborhood, once a rather ritzy part of town, has since fallen into horrible disrepair. There are a lot of formerly lovingly cared for gardens running wild.. with nobody to tend them. Roses that weep over crumbling walls, and staircases that lead to nowhere but burnt foundations. I keep hoping for it's restoration, but buildings are falling too fast.

There it is & you ought to take it & put it in your apartment. Probably nobody ever looked at porn while they were sitting in it. You can lean waaaay back & relax. The sign back there says Paid parking, $110 per month & shows a phone-number to call if you're interested. ---------- Along the north side of Campus Drive, west of University Avenue in Morgantown, West Virginia.

One of my favourite neighbourhoods. The bldgs are kind of trashey & that's alright with me, but importantly the streets have got sidewalks on both sides. You can walk on one side or the other, as it please ye. Plus all that yellow paint. -------- 1st Street as viewed to the west from University Avenue in Morgantown, West Virginia.
