... a vibrant orange and yellow lighthouse at the harbour of Stykkishólmur. The fishing town of Stykkishólmur is situated in the western part of Iceland, to the north of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. With its ~1200 inhabitants, it is a center of services and commerce for the area. Most of the people make their living from fishing and tourism. A ferry called Baldur goes over the Breiðafjörður fjord to the West Fjords (Vestfirðir). The favourable position of the town was discovered rather early and in 1550 a trading post was founded at the site. Today, the most important employer of the town after the fishing industry is a convent of Catholic nuns. The town was named after a small island in front of the harbour with the name Stykkið (meaning the piece in Icelandic). The nearby mountain of Helgafell is the burial place of Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir, a heroine of the Icelandic sagas.

At the end of rainbow, you'll find a pot of gold

At the end of a rainbow, you'll find a pot of gold At the end of a story, you'll find it's all been told But our love has a treasure our hearts always spend And it has a story without any end At the end of a river, the water stops its flow At the end of a highway, there's no place you can go But just tell me you love and you are only mine And our love will go on 'til the end of time At the end of a river, the water stops its flow At the end of a highway, there's no place you can go But just tell me you love and you are only mine And our love will go on 'til the e-end of time 'Til the end of time (Song-text of Earl Grant, I love the interpretation of Percy Sledge)

Opposing the harbor of Stykkishólmur, in western Iceland, there rises a big cliff out of the ocean called Súgandisey. It has been bridged with the mainland and there are stairs leading to the top of it where you'll find an extraordinary view and a small lighthouse. -Stykkishólmur is on my top 3 list of the most beautiful towns in Iceland... And as an added bonus they have a place called Narfeyrarstofa, where I discovered the best hamburger I've ever tasted! :)
