painted shoe by Clarks
Made by Trevira
Imagine having a hand painted, arty Deco style pair of shoes. From the caption: 'About 1929, to encourage shoe design, Alice Clark organised a department to produce satin shoes painted to customers' colour schemes, and hand painted and embroidered evening shoes. 1929 Evening Bar shoe. Painted satin designed by Christina Walshe. 2 1/2 louis heel. Turnshoe.' I've just found out that Alice Clark was an interesting woman; a campaigner for women's rights and a pioneering historian of women's lives and work. There's a useful piece about her at Early Modern Notes.

Made by Trevira
