Strawberry Mansion Bridge in Philadelphia

Built in the late 1800's by Phoenix Iron Works in Phoenixville PA.. Phoenix Iron, one of the largest bridge building companies in the world (over 4,000 bridges built) proposed building a 1,000 foot tall observation tower in Fairmount Park for the Centennial Exposition. Gustav Eiffel was a bridge designer. He visited Phoenix Iron and saw a model of the proposed tower.

This 1897 arch bridge crosses the Schuylkill River in Fairmont Park, Philadelphia. It was built by the Phoenix Bridge Company and features 4 spandrel-braced arch spans, along with some deck truss approach spans not pictured here. I would say this is perhaps the most beautiful bridge in the entire city. The picture was cropped in order to remove a boat dock.
