MIDNIGHT sun
Made by Farl
It was high summer in Bergen, Norway, the best time to capture the midnight sun. My only digicam is an ultracompact pocket model with only a 16MB memory disk. I had no tripod so the window sill had to the job. Experimenting with different shooting modes, I found out that the night mode worked best at 1s exposure. Except for a little nudging of the contrast and brightness, I did not alter the image significantly although I realize now I should have used a higher ISO speed AND a higher resolution. As it was 1:30AM, the highest point I had was my hotel room so I only got some roof shots and nothing more landscapey. This is the best of the lot, more impressionistic rather than realistic due to the grain but is my reminder of the midnight sun. It kinda reminds me of the blueness in Van Gogh's Starry Night but without the stars. (You can't really see the sun totally in Bergen or the rest of South Norway, only meek sunlight. If you go north, you would.)

Korskirken door
Made by Farl
The Church of the Cross is old, probably erected in 1100s. It was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt and renovated so the church is a hodgepodge of everything: looming Romanesque walls and nave and numerous portions that are Gothic, Renaissance (the tower) and Baroque. I like best its huge door with the cast iron hinge-cum-decor. They surely don't produce this kind of work anymore. Unless you commission a foundry... in Bryggen, Bergen, Norway

Panorama of Bergen
Made by TimOve
It looks like my most interesting pictures are the ones I take of landscapes, so here is a panorama I took today of my beautiful city. 3 of the 7 mountains surrounding the city can be seen with the largest one being the one in the middle. I had hoped that the clouds would be more sharp, but I tried to keep as low ISO as possible so the shutter speed was rather slow resulting in blurred clouds.

Rosenkrantz
Made by Farl
Rosenkrantz Tower dates back to medieval times. The tower was erected in 1560 and served as a combined residence and fortified tower to Bergen, located strategically at the end of the Bryggen port. The structure is a well-preserved testament to Viking culture. Bergen, Norway

Bergen Waterfront
Made by millisecond
Downtown waterfront in Bergen, Norway. Rebuilt sometime when there was a fire, but still an amazing little maze of old spaces inside the buildings.
