Humbug - St Mirren vs Caley Thistle

I would have got more and better photos if this guy (I use the word instead of my real thought) hadn't decided my camera was too good and that if I didn't stop he would throw me out. I had checked the ticket before, and now I've looked at the conditions on the website and it doesn't say anything about photography. However, if you're a photographer, try a different ground. In any case, the football was dreadful and although these are meant to be Scottish Premier League teams, Shrewsbury Town, from the fourth tier of English football, would have murdered either of them. I paid what might be my only visit to the new St Mirren Park on Saturday 25 September.

Another late goal
Made by W F B
Yet another late goal lost by Saints. This time it was from Aberdeen, scoring after 93 minutes in the Active Nations Scottish Cup Quarter-Final tie at Greenhill Road. After a first half where neither keeper had a save to make, the 2nd half livened up a bit, with both teams being a bit more attack-minded. Saints hit the bar mid-way through the half, then eventually took the lead after about 75 minutes. Several clear-cut chances follwed, but in typical Saints style, they didn't kill the game off, and were punished. Fly Past: St Mirren vs Caley Thistle

After another Eric Odhiambo goal at the start of the second half, the game settled down to a dour tussle, giving me time to notice that the new stadium is about 1.5km (1 mile) from the threshold of Glasgow Airport, and if the football's boring you can always try plane-spotting. In fact, bring your binoculars and registration book. I paid what might be my only visit to the new St Mirren Park on Saturday 25 September.

St. Mirren 3-0 Kilmarnock - 24-09-2011

The pitch at new St. Mirren Park gets watered before the game. Kilmarnock's reasonable start to the season (1 defeat before today) was brought to an abrupt end in Paisley . . . to send the 1200 Killie fans, who came to support the team, home a little sad.

Attack! - St Mirren vs Caley Thistle

St Mirren did try to press in the second half, but it was too little too late - Two nil down and badly outnumbered in the opposition box. Not exactly enterprising. I paid what might be my only visit to the new St Mirren Park on Saturday 25 September.

IThe early stages of the game were frenetic, but in fact St Mirren probably had the best of the game. A St Mirren attack flashes past the Caley post. I paid what might be my only visit to the new St Mirren Park on Saturday 25 September.

Marking in the midfield was tight, so there were few telling passes as there was little time to settle on the ball. I paid what might be my only visit to the new St Mirren Park on Saturday 25 September.
