dead elephant memorial
Made by Carpe Feline
outside the palace at Fatehpur Sikri: this was the emperor Akbar’s beloved elephant. He wanted the elephant close to him even after it died so he sent his servants to the valley to choose a site and buried the elephant here (our guide wasn't exactly sure if the elephant was really there) and built the memorial so he could look out every day and see him. 1116050304

taj and sun set
Made by Carpe Feline
the sun actually doesn't set over the Taj at the time of year we were visiting but more off to the left and at an angle so waiting to see the whole Taj 'bathed in the sunset turned out to be a no go for us. next morning it was shrouded in fog though to good that we had gone in the evening. 1115050934

taj mahal & crowds
Made by Carpe Feline
not sure you could ever see the Taj without a lot of people if you are not someone very important yourself. even as we were there, some of our tour members saw Maggie Smith, the British actress, there as well. 1115050852

boat on the river
Made by Carpe Feline
the back side of the Taj Mahal fronts this river and this small boat was working around, fishing and such, I suppose. 1115050947
