Spitzkoppe
The Spitzkoppe (also referred to as Spitzkop, Groot Spitzkop, or the "Matterhorn of Namibia"), is a group of bald granite peaks located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib desert. The granite is more than 700 million years old and the highest outcrop rises about 1784 meters (5857 feet) above sea level. The peaks stand out dramatically from the flat surrounding plains. The highest peak is about 700m above the floor of the desert below. A minor peak- the Little Spitzkoppe - lies nearby at an elevation of 1584 metres above sea level. Other prominances stretch out into a range known as the Pontok Mountains.Top photos chosen by u all:

Le camping du Spitzkoppe (chapeau pointu) est géré par l'association namibienne NACOBTA. Le confort est sommaire (il n'y a pas d'eau), mais il y a un site au plus par km tout autour de la montagne, chacun au milieu des rochers, la montagne est grandiose surtout au coucher et au lever du soleil, et l'intégralité des recettes est reversée à la communauté du village voisin qui le gère. Tranquilité garantie, il ne faut juste pas oublier le sel ! Un de nos meilleurs moments en Namibie... www.nacobta.com.na The Spitzkoppe campsite is managed by the non profit Namibian organization NACOBTA. Comfort is basic (there is no water), but each site is scattered among the boulders about one km from one another all around the mountain, the Spitzkoppe is magnificent especially at sunset and sunrise, and all the benefits are going to the local community who runs the campsite. One of our most memorable moment in Namibia...
