Despite its attractions busy, bustling, hectic, frenetic, frenzied Bangkok can be downright depressing on times. The city and its millions occasionally drive me to distraction with the need for some space and sanity (because sometimes there is not a lot of either in gutsy BKK). But then something will happen that lifts the day, no matter how frustrated or down one feels Bangkok and its inhabitants will eventually raise a smile, titter or laugh. The fug of central Bangkok is now and then parted with a little ray of sunshine. So it was one dull Saturday afternoon, feeling peckish and in need of a place to sit and rest my feet, I found myself in the food court at Silom’s Central shopping mall. I had just finished a kare rice from Tokyo Kitchen and had put away the Bangkok Post, feeling just a little of that old ennui when these two came up and asked if I would answer some of their questions. Well yes I had time they promised it would take just 10 minutes. They were studying computer science at the King Mongkot Institute of Technology and the exercise was for a college project. The usual questions followed: Where are you from, what do you do, how long have you been in Thailand, what do you like best in Thailand, where have you been and in the words of Yul B etc, etc, etc. Well the ten minutes lasted an hour and a pleasant experience it was too. At the end we had a good chat with many laughs and compliments all round. It’s the little things in this big city that make all the difference. I ventured forth to Tops with renewed vigour. Thailand you truly are amazing.

I stood at Phaya Thai station, facing the building for a long long time. You had just left me from there into that building. You had told me to go. And then walked into the building. It was so tall that I could not see the top. I imagined that you could still have been there and seen me standing down here from above. But even so, you would just have pretend nothing. Or it was really nothing. I could not stay there any more. I needed to go, or my heart would break into pieces.

It's an intriguing idea, but ... Do I want fish who've been eating somebody else's dead diseased skin to be eating mine? Somehoe I don't think this is an FDA approved treatment.

It's great they are renovating the pavement. But they don't need to make any safety provisions for pedestrians or the disabled. Currently it is an obstacle course.
