Shrine of Remembrance
The Shrine of Remembrance, located in St Kilda Road, Melbourne, is one of the largest war memorials in Australia. It was built as a memorial to the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I, but soon came to be seen as Australia's major memorial to all the 60,000 Australians who died in the war. It now serves as a memorial for all Australians who served in war and it is the site of annual observances of ANZAC Day (25 April) and Remembrance Day (11 November).Top photos chosen by u all:

Melbourne Panorama

Mr CPP and I climbed to the top of the Shrine of Rememberance, looking back towards the City of Melbourne down St Kilda road. You can tell how massive the new Eureka Tower is, it dominates the Melbourne skyline, even if it is a residential only tower!

In the trenches

The entrance to the visitor's centre at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance is a subtle reference to the trenches that so many soldiers spent time in. Even on a warm, sunny autumn day, it is just enough of a reminder to set the solemnity of the place.

This is taken from the Shrine balcony, looking towards Albert Park Lake. This photo was , taken by Pizzodisevo in 1959. I tried to capture the same shot, 47 years later - the skyline has ceratinly changed.
