Lascivious. Subconscious. Oblivious.
Made by Fusty Box
I have wrestled with my conscience for years over this one. For me this is a magic moment of street photography, the split second when it all came together, but the sticking point was always the possible embarrassment of my unwitting subjects. Let's face it, this is an everyday occurrence. In every city in the world men, consciously or subconsciously check out women's asses, it's human nature ... and yes I do - and it's not just men, I've noticed women checking out my leather-clad nethers on more than one occasion. The question is 'Do we want that glance captured on film and published around the world?' And it goes beyond THIS photograph, flickr 'street groups' are full of images of fat people, thin people, ugly people ... often with a derogatory title or description, images taken without the subject's knowledge. Should we be ghoulishly stalking unsuspecting folk on the streets with cameras in our quest to be the next Bresson? So I publish it. The lad on the left is making no attempt to hide his look. The man in the middle may have been thinking about something completely different, unaware that his eyes were pointing at this woman's rump. She, oblivious. How would she react to this image? SHOULD I have published it or should I have burned it? Answers in BLACK ink. Please do not attempt to write on both sides of the paper at once.

My Escape
Made by Jason_Combs
As of late I have been super busy with the second level Japanese Class I am taking. It's considerably harder than the first class and it's interesting, but it takes up most of my time. Hence why I haven't been on here much or shooting much for that matter. As a result I have been a little down. For those that know me, they know I need my down time and down time is something I haven't really had much of lately. I can't really complain I guess. This is all stuff I want to do, but I have a fine balance to stay happy. I can't be too busy, or be under stimulated or I am miserable. In more fun news; it's almost momiji season here in Tokyo. I feel as if I have neglected my Tokyo Flickr friends and not really hung out as of late, so lets meet up and go shoot. =) Currently Listening: Jane - Slipping Away

Give Me Shibuya!
Made by Dan Chui (busy)
5XP HDR shot of frantically busy Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan. This was taken from my hotel room and was fortunate to have such an awesome view! The processing was a bit more difficult given the reflection and dust from outside the window but I'm happy with this result. I really enjoy living/visiting in fast-paced cities and my recent trip to Shibuya only reinforced this belief. The 'scramble crossing' which was featured in such movie classics as: Lost in Translation & Fast and The Furious - Tokyo Drift, is really a sight to behold - an estimated 3k ppl go through the section every minute! Some Shibuya marquees shown include: A part of the scramble crossing in the lower-right, Shibuya 109 department store, Yoyogi Park, Q-Front building, and Center Gai. Processed using Photomatix. Applied Nik software, sharpened the image, and used Noise Ninja in Photoshop. Feel free to leave a comment!

心雨 The Rain in my Heart
Made by James Yeung
There’s a heavy rain in my heart yet the rain would not wet her hair As tears smudge words of love in the postcard, the sorrow allows no difference in time There’s a heavy rain in my heart yet the raindrops would not reach her The cold wind passed by the branches in the garden and froze the fresh flowers in my hands

Spick and Span
Made by amirjina
Sometimes Japan is not as squeaky clean as its image suggests. Here, old exists beside new. Next to skyscrapers you can see 50 year old wooden shacks, next to ultra-stylish kids sits an old man in traditional clothes, next to one of the Toyko's most expensive retail areas there are alleys and streets that have been forgotten and passed by. Sometimes, I find neglected flyers more beautiful than towers of glass and steel.

The cosmos flowers keep calling me......
Made by Alfie | Japanorama
I was walking around Omotesando and Harajuku to kill some time before meeting a friend the other night and found this patch of cosmos flowers. Planted out in the street, behind them were the lights of a shop and a vending machine was providing some light from my side. Just beautiful. Got mesmerised for a good fifteen minutes by these flowers. Nikon D300 85mm f/1.4 AF D @ f/1.4

Cones in the rain: Shibuya, Tokyo
Made by Alfie | Japanorama
I was out shooting with a student the other day and sadly a load of our pictures got corrupted by a bad data link between my CF card-reader and the PC. This one survived, with a few others. Amazing weather that afternoon; thunder, lightning, torrential rain. Great drama. Nikon D300 85mm f/1.4 AF D @f/1.4
