Explore #5 The view of the Huangpu district from the Shanghai World Financial Center in Pudong. The Park Hyatt is at the top of the SWFC - the tallest building in mainland China and Hong Kong - and occupies the 79th to the 93rd floor of the skyscraper. It is now the highest hotel in the world, a record previously held by the Grand Hyatt in the neighbouring Jin Mao tower, which I also I was in Shanghai. For the first three nights in Shanghai we were staying in the Park Hyatt as part of an event. Upon checking in, I was told that because they were so full I'd been lucky and my room had been upgraded to one with a better view. Which was this one, from the 82nd floor.

A classic view, taken from the bar of the Hyatt On The Bund. I could not get my tripod in, therefore I managed to find a flat surface where I could secure my camera and shoot this panorama, not the ideal conditions though... I wish I shot this at the blue hour, but this was not possible as all the lighting on The Bund always starts at 19h00 all year long, and the blue hour that day was at 18h00... Thanks to my flickr friend Markus () whom I met in Shanghai and he gave me valuable information about this amazing city.

I'm in Shanghai now to see EXPO and my dad who is here for work until Nov. I couldn't fall asleep again last night after watching world cup (Germany v.s Spain, finished at 4am China time.), was amazed by the blue hour outside window so I decided to take cab to the Bund to get some more unique sunrise pictures, it was a little crazy, but turned out great. I love Shanghai.=) explored #37, 8 July 2010

This was the stunning view from my hotel room in the 49th floor! I was so fascinated and freaked out by the height and the view that I could not fall asleep without taking photos over and over again. Being so high over Shanghai and its 20 million people is an incredible feeling.

Starting at the 53rd floor, the atrium of the Grand Hyatt Hotel goes up to the 87th floor. It is 152 heigh and has a diameter of 27m. The 88th floor is the oversvation deck from wich this photo has been taken. Total hight of the tower: 421m.
