I enjoyed this little project done last year (2010, 2 years before the end of the world) in November. A DIY iPhone case doubling as a real camera look alike holder and a stand. I wish I used it for today's Hong Kong #instameet, such a great gathering, love chatting with a scientist about his next speech, a movie producer, an IT guy from France, the only girl who came over from Macau just for this, 'old' friends, etc. If you happen to be on Instagram, check out our #hkinstayay tag or HK InstaYay Facebook page. Here's a simple walkthrough. Grab any iPhone case with simple design, find any old lens about the same width of your iPhone and a glue gun. That's basically all you need. Sorry to say that, to camera freaks, I spoiled a Voigtlander old camera with a very cute lens, it was given to me by a good friend and artist in New York, but I think it is more happy on my iPhone rather than sitting on shelf gathering dust. I unscrewed the lens from the camera body and sawed away unnecessary stuffs, sticked a piece of blue paper on the back of the lens to make it look handsome behind the lens, hot glued on the back of the spare case I had, and finally adding a piece of scrap leather (could've done better giving it a few stitches). That's it. The beauty of this is that you can hold the extruded lens using your left hand, feeling safe because you have more than a flat surface to grab hold of, steady steady… and shoot with your right finger. It doubles as a stand on your desk so that you can have perfect viewing angle for your movie and photos. With a few more twists, you can add a strap on both sides so that the iPhone rests safely on your neck. How perfect. Sooner or later, there will be commercially available cases like this I predict. It is so much fun, but of course it becomes bigger to carry or slide into your pocket, but hey that's a good looking thing to carry isn't it? We Had No Idea What Was Precious I feel terribly proud to live and be born in this magic place called Hong Kong. The hub of many things, the opportunities it unveils, the speed and flexibility it embraces…. . In the movie The Book of Eli, Danzel Washington acting as Eli said to a young woman People had more than they needed, we had no idea what was precious or wasn't, we threw away things people would kill each other for now. We are definitely in the era of abundance now. We have things people before us (and after?) would be in awe of. That's how treasurable these things are. Well, refrained myself from being too far away in thoughts, here's what I got earlier this month from small shops here in Hong Kong: Waxed nylon thread @HK$50, leather buttons HK$63, Mink oil HK$36, metal rings HK$26. The other stuffs I got earlier are just around HK$10 each. Thank you for letting me to live in this time and this place. Sham Shui Po is an area where urban decay is serious in Hong Kong, the government is concerned about the problem and has decided to carry out urban renewal project. As Sham Shui Po was one of the earliest developed districts in Hong Kong, it was once a commercial, industrial and transportation hub of the territory. As of 2003, Sham Shui Po is covered mainly by residential buildings, with public housing estates built on approximately 810,000 m² of land. Factories and warehouses are still being concentrated mainly in Cheung Sha Wan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sham_Shui_Po

Sham Shui Po, or Shamshuipo, is a district of Hong Kong, best known for its street market for electronic devices. It is situated in the northwestern part of the Kowloon Peninsula, north of Tai Kok Tsui and east of Cheung Sha Wan. It is administratively part of Sham Shui Po District.

Peeping the Prosperous
Made by happykiddo
#65/365 looking over from the hillside by myself, this is a place where i've been to back in few years ago with a bunch of friends, i still remember we were so passionate in photo taking and we were all pretty amateur at that time, but we were happy and we almost go taking photos every week. things has changed, some not taking photos at all, some not so into this area anymore, i guess i am just getting crazier and crazier, still a lot to learn, but i am still enjoying, thats what really matters.

View On Black Not that I care about it. but the explore thing is really weird. As of 24/12/2009, this photo had only 37 views, yet my DNA says that this got explored. Compared to my friends photos which have typically hundreds of views, the fact that this was explored is beyond my comprehension. a lost dragon

Dragon Centre (Chinese: 西九龍中心) is a nine-storey shopping centre in the Sham Shui Po district of Kowloon, Hong Kong; the largest in West Kowloon from Sham Shui Po to Cheung Sha Wan, but that was before Elements Mall opened its doors in West Kowloon above the Kowloon MTR Station. 西九龍中心(Dragon Centre)是香港的一個大型商場,位於深水埗的市中心,於1994年落成。 Hong Kong • 香港 '10

Riding the MTR always gives me a sense of wonder and magic. No matter how many times I've taken it. I try my best to not look so in wonder and keep it inside instead. Even though Hong Kong is relatively small, riding the MTR from end to end, there are so many different things to see. How we suddenly enter a tunnel here or ride an escalator up there and then spring up completely elsewhere in minutes is magic.

Still sorting through my pictures from the Hong Kong trip. I'm so slow... This was taken at the Apliu Street electronics flee market. Although I've been there a couple times in the past, this is the first time I've noticed they sell camera like this. There were several of these shops along the street with all kinds of slr's and rangefinders. This particular one was also selling running shoes.
