This photo was taken in the same location as the original , however, whereas the original was taken with a full moon, for this shot I wanted to see what the scene would look like when not lit at all. I returned during the new moon phase, the tide was out and only the light pollution was lighting up the distant sky. I set the camera and triggered the shutter and waited producing a 20 minute exposure. The noise was very well controlled by the camera, I was using ISO100, and any remaining hint of noise I removed using Noise Ninja. The photo was sharpened and apart from a contrast increase during the RAW conversion stage, a slight colour vibrancy adjustment and the removal of star trails, that I felt were of no benefit in this scene, no other changes were made. I personally like the timelessness and the simplicity of such scenes. The silhouette of the cliffs boosts this further. The light pollution is coming from sodium vapour lights of the nearby town.

These cliffs are called the seven sisters so it is fitting that the middle balance is the first ever balance done by my older sister. You can tell by the shape of rocks she chose that she is an artist. The balance on the left is the first ever balance by my wife. My balance on the right lasted all the time while we were on the beach but my wife's fell down after about 30 minutes. We did not find out until much later that evening that there was a rare earthquake in the UK at Folkestone which was only 60 miles away. It was earlier in the morning but probably still not the best day to start your rock balancing career.

This view last Friday from Seaford Head eastward across Cuckmere Haven to the Seven Sisters was lovely on this summer day - at least, just where we were standing was glorious. Inland they weren't so lucky. The South Downs literally tumble into the sea here, having marched for over eighty miles almost parallel to the South Coast, from Hampshire through West Sussex and East Sussex.

Seven Sisters is a formation of rocks in East Sussex between Seaford and Eastbourne. We walked in west-east-direction starting from a parking place next to the A259 in Westdean to Birling Gap, a Hotel on the coast near the village Eastdean, and return. First we had to wait until the water went away to low tide.

Taken in August 2007. I had planned to try another picture of the classic view of the Seven Sisters from Birling Gap but the conditions were against it. My eye was then caught by the rocks and people. Some extra saturation and a posterisation adjustment layer in multiply mode were applied. Best viewed large.
