A Brand New Day
Made by Thomas Hawk
Hey, thanks all for the comments and faves on this photo. A little background. I recently spent 2 days up in Seattle visiting with Getty Images. While I had meetings during the day, at night and in the early morning I ran around all over Seattle shooting. This particular photo was taken near an elevator and stairway that went from the area around Pike Place Market down to the waterfront. I actually wasn't waiting for this shot. I saw this woman runner running and had to sprint after her to chase her with my camera (and backpack). I'm glad she didn't turn around because she probably would have mistaken me for a stalker or something. Anyways, right before this bridge to the stairs/elevator is the freeway that runs along the waterfront in Seattle. So she is running beneath this freeway, which is where the light on her is coming from. It's from a light in the underpass. She's running towards the bridge and even more dramatically, and out of view, towards the ocean. The sun had just come up. I had already been shooting for a few hours in the dark and just lucked into this glorious capture of someone beginning their day. I saw her running and just thought what an amazing way to start a day. The air is clean and fresh in Seattle, it was crisp and cold, and her run just represented all that is good about morning to me. I shoot strangers a lot. I love it when they can't see me and I can capture a moment in life as a hidden observer.

This is the Experience Music Project building in the Seattle Center, under the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington. This is an HDR composite of 3 shots. The Experience Music Project (EMP) is a museum of music history founded by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, located on the campus of Seattle, Washington's Seattle Center. It is sited near the Space Needle and is by one of the two stops on the Seattle Center Monorail, which runs through the building. The structure itself was designed by Frank Gehry, and resembles many of his firm's other works in its sheet-metal construction, such as Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Walt Disney Concert Hall and Gehry Tower. Much of the building material is exposed in the building's interior. The central Sky Church room pays homage to Jimi Hendrix and other rock 'n' roll icons using a 40 foot high, 70 foot wide video screen and an 18-panel montage of images. The last structural steel beam to be put in place bears the signatures of all construction workers who were on site on the day it was erected. Hoffman Construction Company of Portland, Oregon was the general contractor.

Sleep or not to Sleep ( Seattle Night )
Made by *IGORB81* ~too busy :-( ~
I dug out another photo of downtown Seattle that I took from the Alki beach overlooking the downtown! I think I managed to do pretty good considering the lack of tripod so I had to use park bench! lol If any of you know of any decent tripod that is very compact and sturdy I would be interested in looking into since I don't have one to this point and I don't want to haul anything huge with me. This place has amazing views of Seattle at night and it is rather popular spot for this purpose. I took this photo just before Christmas time the last time I was there. I miss you Seattle! :( This is a 30 second exposure, please take a look at the other photo which is more of continuation of this scene including the notorious Space Needle! Maybe I will attempt to merge the two images into a stunning panorama of course if it would be possible. I will have to take a look at that. Have a nice day everyone! Thank you everyone for my 3rd Explore front Page and #2! :D

The Monorail
Made by xengravity
It's a shame this particular monorail only comes once every 30 minutes or so. The process of taking this photo went something like the following: - Walk around the general vicinity - Hear the rumble - Run to location, setup, position, get composure ready - Monorail zooms by before you are ready to shoot - Cry - Repeat Eventually you just realize you have to sit there the whole 30 minutes so you don't miss it every time. All the perfect drugs and superheroes wouldn't be enough to bring me up to zero -- Aimee Mann (Taken between Kathleen Edwards' and Aimee Mann's sets at Seattle's Summer Nights concerts which have moved to South Lake Union Park this year. I've never seen so many sponsors for an event and Aimee sarcastically ticked them all off before playing.)
