Schönbrunn Palace (Schloss Schönbrunn) is a former imperial summer residence in Vienna, Austria. One of the most important cultural monuments in the country, since the 1960s it has been one of the major tourist attractions in Vienna. Well, there is a short story behind this shot. I have always wanted to take a blue hour shot of the beautiful Schönbrunn palace and when we visited Vienna this summer, I was very excited about getting this shot finally. So, I planned my day in such a way that we would come back to the hotel early evening so that I would have enough time to go to the palace as the blue hour sets in. Well, everything went according to the plan but somehow we got delayed a bit. I had to literally run from the hotel to the U-Bahnstation and then again from the U-Bahn station to the palace. It was difficult with a heavy tripod and a backpack. Finally, I reached the palace just in time (sweating profusely) but I was told by the guard at he entrance that the palace was now closed for the day and that I could take shots from outside the gates :-( I nearly begged him to allow me to take just one shot from within the palace gates. He finally relented and told me that I had just 2 minutes as he had to report back that the gate is closed. So, I setup the tripod and the camera as fast as I could and took 4 shots in a sequence (checked the camera light meter and set the camera in maual mode and prayed). Luckily, the shots came out OK. I thanked the guard as I packed my stuff and told him how grateful I was. He looked kind of surprised that someone would be so happy just clicking a shot of a palace that he sees everyday :-) Hope you all had a great weekend. Wishing you all a great week ahead!

Sometimes these nasty sliders just go berserk!!! I know I have gone too far. I still wanted to post this picture as an experiment. You have all the right not to like it and I would like to hear your HONEST opinion!! And I'm sorry if you might have turned blind by looking at this image. recourse receivables are not possible though, sorry :-) Music: Gnarls Barkley - Crazy Shot: Pentax K200D, Tamron 18-250, 18mm (35mm equivalent: 27mm), 15 Shots -2EV; 0EV +2EV, hand-held Software used for this image: Photomatix Pro 3 (Details Enhancer), Adobe Lightroom 2, Adobe Photoshop CS3 The 15 images were processed in Photomatix to 5 HDR images. Those 5 HDR images were then stitched together to a pano using Autopano Pro. The HDR pano was then processed in Adobe Lightroom 2 with one of the creative presets. The image was then further manipulated in CS3. Criticism is welcome and appreciated!

So for all those who still have eyelight left after my last upload here is the non-apocalyptic version of the same shot :-) I know it's a teeeny - weeeeny bit to saturated.... that's intentional :-) I'm also anouncing that this week is Panorama week - I have 4 Panorama shots from my skiing trip on saturday to upload. I hope I won't bore you too much with my ski pics... The Palace of Schonbrunn, Vienna. Translates to Beautiful Spring. Built arround 1638 this beautiful palace has grounds that include a Zoo, French gardens,English gardens, Palm house and Orangery. Used now for State banquets and the world famous Christmas market. Here we have the view guests have when entering the market place just in front of the Palace. The market consists of traditional Austrian fare, such as Gluhwein (Mulled Wine), food and handmade christmas decorations. As you can imagine Mrs Vale went mad on the decorations and I went mad on the Gluhwein(correction, we both went mad on the Gluhwein). Wow! good stuff. The Palace of Schonbrunn is a Unesco World Heritage site, popular for its Christmas market which is based at the front of the Palace, this view is of the rear where the extensive gardens are. Behind me is the Gloriette, a structure that no doubt I will upload when I have the opportunity to. The gardens consist of a wide range of styles which include a Palm house, orangerie, english and french themed gardens together with a Zoo. Recent times the Palace and gardens were used in the making of the James Bond film Living Daylights. Vale Boy's most interesting photos on Flickriver

Schönbrunn Palace (Vienna, Austria) together with its ancillary buildings and extensive park is by virtue of its long and colourful history one of the most important cultural monuments in Austria. Scheduled as a listed monument, the whole ensemble, including the palace, the park with its numerous architectural features, fountains and statues and not least the zoo – the oldest of its kind in the world – was placed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1996. Beautiful palace of the historical and famous Hapsburg family in Vienna, Austria. The Hapsburgs reigned in Europe for over 700 years, having at various times ruled parts of Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Hungary and even Mexico. Pictures were not allowed inside but I snuck this one because it was so beautiful. This is a ballroom.

(stupid title, I know) Remember the Gloriette from my last pic? Well, this one was taken from the Gloriette, after we climbed up that small hill.. The girl on the right is Ilana, my australian friend, and that building down there is the Schönbrunn Palace, where the Austrian emperors used to live..Sissi and the likes of her..
