the entry of S. Apollinare Church. (from www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM7DG0_Chiesa_di_SantAponal_C... : Church of St. Apollinaire was founded by refugees from Ravenna in 1034. St. Apollinaire was their patron saint and Sant'Aponal is name of the same saint in the Venetian dialect.... The current Gothic design of the single nave church with a flat coffered ceiling originates from the 15th century, when was the original church completely reconstructed. St. Apollinaire was suppressed in 1810 by the French army, which stripped it of its art and furnishings and used the church for the detention of political prisoners. Church was again consecrated and reopened in 1851 (with five of its eight altars returned and the high altar taken from the church of St. Giustina in Castello). Finally, the church was closed in 1984 and from that time is used as deposit for marriage registers by the Venetian Commune. The notable Gothic marble relief of the crucifixion above the rosette window is from the late 14th century. Relief below the window (see photos) shows Christ with the Virgin and St. John the Baptist under a Gothic arch and is flanked by saints in spired niches.

Venezia è anche un sogno, di quelli che puoi comperare, però non ti puoi risvegliare con l' acqua alla gola, e un dolore a livello del mare: il Doge ha cambiato di casa e per mille finestre c'è solo il vagito di un bimbo che è nato, c'è solo la sirena di Mestre... Venezia è un imbroglio che riempie la testa soltanto di fatalità: del resto del mondo non sai più una sega, Venezia è la gente che se ne frega! Stefania è un bambino, comprare o smerciare Venezia sarà il suo destino: può darsi che un giorno saremo contenti di esserne solo lontani parenti...

Se noi riuscissimo a essere così uniti e “italiani” sempre, allora saremo davvero una nazione invincibile in grado di affrontare qualunque sfida, perchè ... L'ex convento dei Frari, o Ca' Granda, è adiacente alla chiesa di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. Soppresso da Napoleone nel 1810 è dal 1815 sede dell'Archivio di Stato, uno dei più importanti archivi del mondo, che raccoglie 15 milioni di volumi e filze relativi alla storia di Venezia. In particolare gli archivi di tutti i consigli e le magistrature di Venezia dal sec.IX al 1797, poi dei governi successivi alla caduta della Repubblica, inoltre gli archivi di tutte le Scuole, Arti e Confraternite, nonchè le lettere dei Principi, indirizzate dai vari regnanti al governo della Serenissima.

On monday evening I felt bored and thought I'd rather have a ride in my new car instead of sitting in front of my computer the hole evening. Therefore I stood up, took my camera and my keys and went out. I bought something to eat at the Mc donald's and left at 10 pm, heading for Italy. I arrived at 4 am in Venezia and walked around the empty streets to take some shots of the incredible scenery. At 10 am I headed back home and stopped in Lugano and Bellinzona to meet some friends. I was back on tuesday at 10 pm, exactly 24 hours later and after a 1'258 km road trip :P

I was following my Venetian wife on a shopping expedition in Venice near the Campo S. Toma' and pased by an open door which revealed the above scene. The average tourist in Venice is overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the Rialto, Piazza San Marco and all of the tiny alleyways filled with people. What they don't see are the calm spaces behind the doors and windows of Venetian houses. These courtyards and gardens are what makes Venice such a special place to live.

One hazy day we were strolling along the less-traveled portions of the city and crossing one of the many bridge when I noticed this scene and quickly set my camera. This was captured in the San Polo quarter of the lovely Venice Italy. The ancient city of Venice dates to 827 and is situated on water and so it is a walking city. Strolling the beautiful narrow streets away from the tourist areas is the best way to get acquainted. :-)

Every time we go to Venice, we stop to eat in a place near Frari church. Next door ther's a small beads shop we adore. This time M. decided to take a simple thread for me and her. She picked up yellow. This way we wellcomed autumn.
