Damaged Pier

(View this one LARGE.) As we pulled away from the pier at Cozumel, we could see the heavy damage it had sustained from Hurricane Wilma. We were still (obviously) able to dock, but it made me a little nervous to know that the pier was so fragile. Concrete isn't permanent afterall, not when Mother Nature's in charge. These buildings were damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. As Marline and I took a taxi from our pier in Cozumel to the downtown area, we saw dozens of buildings like this one. The cab driver explained that the hurricane had severely torn Cozumel apart, but that the locals were busy putting things back together. This building, for instance, had dozens of laborers inside, clearing rubble. (One of thousands of pictures taken during our , June 5-10, 2006, in the Caribbean.)
